Powdercoating wheels

Anyone here powdercoated his/her wheels? I reckon the stock wheel in gun metal and clearcoat would look great on a silver car.

Thinking about getting it done in Brookvale - price is ok for $60 per wheel from memory. Would even be nicer if there could be a way to put a chrome edge on the wheels but alas Pogo wheels don't have lips... can hide all the brake dust as well - what is it with German cars and dusty pads?

I have been wondering the same thing - I have been tossing up if I should get the rims on our candy white GTI done powder coated the same colour as the rims on a R35 GTR Skyline (see below - sorry for non VW pic in the forum I realise some here are a little sensitive about it).



Any one know a suitable powder coater in Brisbane?

just remember guys if u powder coat and something happens i.e scratch its another powder coat whereas 2pak is just a simple touch up

roodosutaa - there's pete at OZwheels in st marys.. ( absolute trek if you dont live in the area ). but he is highly regarded amongst this forum/in general. apparently he's about $40 per wheel.. that's with bead/sand blasting to baremetal for max adhesion..

ray (rayray086) is the sydney resident wheels whore. he got got his steelies widened and powdercoated from ozwheels - (02) 96237179

I'm contemplating on getting my BBS's repowdercoated in gun metal. Should look totally sweet on my car once it's done. Powdercoating is getting done courtesy of a friend who does it for a living - all I'm paying for is the paint which is peanuts. Powdercoating is a very strong coat that technically shouldnt fade, flake, or chip as easily from road debris (depending on how well it's done).

I reckon the gun metal might work reasonably well with a silver, and help mask your brake dust issues - which is another reason why I'm doing it as I'm sick of cleaning out the spokes on my rims Damn mesh rims!

Jason's right though about the 2 pack - any accidental curbs it'll have to be stripped and resprayed on any powdercoated surface. I havent, and dont intend on coming in contact with any curbs. But this issue has got me thinking that in some ways it may actually be easier for me to strip, prime and respray my rims.

JayJay, from what I've been told, you cannot sandblast any alloy wheels. The pressure from sandblasting should easily damage and chew through alloys due to it's density, but steel and chromoly is a different story.
