Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Likewise Euro Adapter

    Hey Guys,

I've been meaning to change out my shift knob for something more sleek and weighted. I wanted something other than the Forge big shift knob because personally I don't like the styling and didn't think it would suit the car. Now we have a means of installing a threaded shifter with the Likewise euro adapter! I think their products look very good and should be a nice touch to the interior. Anyway, to the point, these adapters come in two sizes, 10mm & 12mm, from my understanding the shifter stalk Volkswagen uses is 12mm, although I wanted to be sure before I make my purchase. Would someone please be able to confirm?!

nice. I like the look of that. On my box, measuring with the verniers just above a little knurled section where the knobs compression fitting tightens onto the shaft, the diameter is 11.94mm.
A while back I drilled up into the gear knob and put lead weight inside it, and raised it on the shafts' key as much as I could. I just couldn't get a comfortable reach down to the gear lever with my seating position otherwise and weighting it definitely made it feel less pissy in the hand and now it flows between the gates more positively.
This bit of kit looks good. You could fit a taller than usual gear knob and get then bring the throw right back with the short shifter - wrc style. Something I've always wanted to do.

Exactly what I was thinking! I think it will not only look great but feel great coupled with a short shift. Have been looking into a DieselGeek short shifter although am yet to pull the trigger because I already have a stockpile of parts waiting to go on the car.

a mate of mine who's kitting out a Renault clio phase 2 RS for hillclimbs just bought a short shift/high lever kit. Seriously looks like what the pre sequential ones looked like in wrc cars. So dam jealous!!
