RACV wouldnt insure me when i mentioned that i was thinking of chipping the car. Moved onto Just Cars with about 5 other mods and the premium is still under 1k.

im getting the polo chipped and want it known on my policy.. AAMI quoted me 2700 with the chip, thats still 1.5k more expensive then what im currently paying with NRMA.
wow thats obscene! How old are you MissVuks? I'm 26 and even though i'm on fleet insurance (car is on a novated lease with autopia) i did some quotes before i got the car, they all hovered around 800-900

gotta love my fleet policy though

im 24 in september.. 0 claims, 0 driving offences 0 suspensions etc

they said it may have something to do with my area and it being high risk. But what i don't get is that nrma obviously doesn't consider it that high risk as my premium is only 1200.. i would have thought all the insurance providers would all pretty much have the same areas deemed low or high risk??

Then the funny thing is just car quoted me 1350 with the chip which isn't that bad.. but essentially they are the same company

The APR for the Polo GTI is just a reflash, not a solder type. I stood there while they uploaded it!

Hey mate, i dont think any polo ecu upgrades are a physical chips, they are all reflashes through the obd2 port

It's been a while since chipping was done with chips. Laptops and cables are all you need these days.

This is what i found on a apr site i looked up :[EMCS is available for this car.

EMCS consists of three important parts that work together as a cohesive unit: the EMCS module (which is soldered to the engine computer board), the EMCS on-board software (the software that is on the module), and the support software that is used to program and reprogram the module.]

I got this off apr web site .Sounded like a soldered in type .

Yeah, that information is outdated, from when the original tune for the 1.8T engine was released (a long time ago).

I can assure you it's not soldered. I've watched Alex do it.

Not quite true Steve, I can flash MK4s, just have to take the ECU out and do it on the bench.

True Gavin I realised after I said it but I thought you could actual flash some ECUs.

Nice to see that they can be bench flashed

As for MK3's OBDI cars are just a plug in chip, as for OBDII cars the original chip must be removed from the board, a chip housing soldered and the new chip put into the housing. I believe this too is an option for MK4's.
