  • what tire or tyre pressure ?

HI all can other gti polo owners tell me is it better to have 40 psi or 35 psi 40 seems to give a firm ride will the higher pressure make my tires last longer? My car has the original tires.

You are probably better off running between 32 to 38PSI in your tyres COLD. Don't run around on your tyres then check the pressure. the heat that has built up in your tyres through running on them will give you a false reading, and you can tend to over inflate your tyres causing too much wear in the center of the tread.

The recommended on the plaquard is too low. Run between 38 and 40 for the best handling.

The difference in tread wear from 35-40 is minimal.

I found running at 40psi dead cold has got me over 52000km on stock tyres.

i am running mine at 42 at the front and 40 at the back.. seems to give a better handling then 38. my butt meter kinda feel it on braking comparing the two.

IIRC that's what is recommended inside the fuel cap.

You sure about that? I did the conversion from BAr to PSI and it was more like 38/35

The recommended pressure is for COMFORT, not HANDLING.

Use 38-40ish for handling. Wear shouldn't be much different.

true that. but if you do have driven the car, the thumb rule is, to pump it 4psi over the pressure you want (eg; 38psi --- 42psi). ALSO NEVER DEFLATE HOT TYRES! not that you'll do it.

LOL! i don't know exactly (doesn't say why on the net) but I think it has something to do with the sidewall of the tire, putting too much stress I've never done it before...so any volunteer??

Because the heat build up from tyre wall flex/road contact friction causes the air inside the tyre to expand, giving false readings if you over inflate/deflate the tyre. Thats why when you are running on the road, you are best off inflating/deflating when the tyre is cold.

Now I'm using after-market springs (H&R), the ride can be a bit rough at low speeds over rough ground.

If my tyres are a little under inflated, will this be a more or less comfortable ride?

If mid 30s is pretty average, will pumping the pressure up to 40+ make muck of a difference at low speeds?

                              Using the Stock Conti's BTW
