Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • POG only 4/5 studs on all wheels

Bought an 08 polo gti and after a year decided to rotate the tyres over front to back. During the move I found that all 4 wheels only have 4 bolts even though its a 5x100 arrangement. Is this done on purpose? Or have I been stooged and somehow the previous owner has lost 1 bolt off all four corners.

    Thanks guys,

    JC

How did the car pass a roadworthy ?
You will find that someone has lost the special key for the locking bolts. So they have managed to get them removed and then not bothered to replace them.
Go and get yourself the correct bolts.

They look like standard bolts - they just have plastic caps over them which are removed by a tool which is in the tyre change kit

Each wheel should have 4 normal bolts, with black caps
and one special locking bolt, which needs a specific tool to undo them.

Cool - so it's likely that somehow previous owner has busted or lost the special lock bolt - and has just not bothered to replace them. OR wheels have been stolen \ replaced.
