Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Standard GTI brakes.

It's time for new rotors and pads on the Polo.
Due to LIMITED options over here, and a lack of knowledge with alternatives; seems that there are 4 potential sizes of pad, according to the 'experts'.
What are the standard items actually like? Are they sub-standard, or just expensive compared to aftermarket parts?

    Any help is appreciated.

I have only come across one pad shape for the std fit brakes. I like my Remsa Pads from GSL Rallysport in Brisbane.

      Thanks for that.

      The standard rotors are OK?

I use remsa with dba t2s (stock 288mm size) and rbf 600 fluid

Stock brakes at the track ran out of puff after half a dozen laps, really spongy and would have to come in and let it all cool down
Upgraded stuff is awesome, none of the above issues thus far
Remsa pads leave about as much dust on the rims as stock pads

          Thank you.
Can you remember what numbers are on the pads, for reference?

And stick with DBA rotors, don't touch the RDA ones, it's a false economy and they won't last as long, particularly under enthusiastic driving. The T2 rotor is as good as you can get in standard size, but any DBA is sufficient. I'm not sure of the freemax gear, if they come in the standard size, but are still apparently better than RDA from speaking with GSL if price is a key consideration.

Don't forget to change fluid if it's not been done recent.

Yeah just call gsl they will sort you out. It think it was $330 shipped to Perth for t2 and remsa.
