  • Gymkhana - have you guys done one?

    Hi guys,

I am thinking of doing Gymkhana, but not sure if it will be okay for the car... I am taking it the car to the race track this Friday too.

Gymkhana apparently just uses mainly first and second gear to go through courses / slalom made of cones. I am just wanting to find out if my revo'ed GTI gearbox will take one off throttle in 1st and 2nd gear throughout the whole time.

Anyone done Gymkhana here? any problems??

    Cheers,
    Han

Ive done a gymkhana, but in an FPV GT-P (5.4L V8 RWD) so unfortunately, I cant answer yr question directly.

However, YOU WILL HAVE GREAT FUN!!

Just a suggestion, dont get on the gas peddle too early, or you'll understeer really badly

Yup I've done them, they're mostly called motorkhana here. Your gearbox will be fine, your handbrake might receive a lot of attention depending on how much fun vs speed you want

If you want to win then 2 things 1) what gareth said & 2) get as close as possible to the witches hats without hitting them.

good call on the ESP, that would be a killer in Gymkhana.

Actually another good tip I picked up from someone either here or on the tex, is tape the button on your handbrake pushed in. That way you wont have to think bout releasing properly, meaning you can concentrate on just the corner exit.

ive also seen the co-driver operating the handbrake lever - great teamwork

haha yeah or you get a smart arse instructor like I did who'd pull the handbrake round a corner when you didn't expect it

EDIT: I think he means co-driver in general, not just motorkhana.

speaking of smart arses, next time yr a passenger in a manual - while yr sitting at a red light, and the driver isnt looking, tap the gears into neutral - very embarrassing for the driver when the lights go green...

Ive never need a co-driver to operate my handbrake for generral driving, but i broke my left arm once and has the kids change gears for me..

I have done a few motorkhanas in my old Mazda Astina, at the Eastern Creek skid pan... awesome fun! I agree, little on clutch/handbrakes, but nothing more than a good hard traffic jam on parramatta rd or any main arterials in sydney.

Best fun I have had on four wheels, but remembering the tricky courses is prob the hardest part of the sprints.

                        HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

                          Thanks guys!

So I have a Taupo race track (track 2) on 23rd May
and Motokhana / Gymkhana on 2nd of June!

Cheers for the tip on the handbrake! I actually knew this trick from drifting in the past.... (well.... not me but from Drift videos!)

By the way, with Whiteline front and rear sway bars, I can oversteer around corners... awesome!!! (not overly, but mild)

                          I can't wait!!
