Koz, Just read this - man, what a mess. Sounds like a big co-incidence the major work on your car followed by a fire.

if you are a member of the NRMA - they have independant assesors for this type of thing, so if needed, give them a call.

Don't worry about your APR - it will be reinstated for you either way.

ok I understand the tow bar aint availatmo.

              watch insurance

if this car is fixed under insurance I would squeeze teh dealer yet (like my Bro did bmw ) for a great deal to compensate for inconvenience and losses and stress ...on a better -untoasted- car option.

Some insurances will repl cars if compl burnt

              pm me for names

pat bun only cover minimal rpair costs.

did unsurance give u a repl car yet?

              hope all this helps.

all by a $20 fireextinguisher today
              and boycott Koz's dealer......

Because of the legal issues involved, I would suggest it is unwise to name the dealer at this stage

                  2013 White German hatch

Give us hint, I think we deserve to know for our own safety! I wouldn’t want to take my car to this dealer. Obviously they are to blame, they seem incompetent. Hey Koz, do you know if it was an electrical fire ?

Koz, any update on your issue mate?

Has the dealer taken responsibility for the damage or is it a matter for courts?

I had the exact same thing happen to me a few years back only with a small time car dealer. I had a Hilux Surf turbo diesel and after I had picked it up from having a crook front strut replaced I was driving home through Gerroa (South of Kiama on the NSW South Coast ) at night, with all the family in the car next thing I know we can smell something burning, a few seconds later the whole cabin fills full of smoke and I make a very quick stop off the road and we all pile out and run for cover. The wind is blowing a gale, sparks and flames are dropping out from under the bonnet onto the road way and we are just waiting for the car to explode. A short time later when it had appeared to stop dropping and sparking, I quickly popped the bonnet open and with a torch I tried to inspect the damage. The stupid backyard bodgy mechanic ( and that's praising him highly) had left an oily rag on the exhaust manifold just below the turbo, needless to say that once it got hot enough it ignited. It did a lot of damage not just to the car but the whole family is scarred from the experience and every time we are driving along and get a whiff of smoke or some sort of burning smell it still puts the wind up us. After I threatened him with legal action, which I might add was what it took for him to accept responsibility, he finally had a go at repairing it but as I discovered later he had actually come down from Wollongong (about 80k's south of Sydney) to collect the car from the side of the road and had attempted to drive it back only to discover a short time later that the fire had burnt holes through heater hoses and he managed to half fry the engine in the process. I told him there was no way I would accept it back and after much ado he agreed to get me into another vehicle which turned out to be a bigger heap than the original. I vowed never to purchase a car from a small yard again. Just make sure you keep the buggers honest and don't take any crap from them!!!!

                                Best of luck
