How long have you owned your Polo GTI? Realistically, it's highly unlikely the dealership will accept responsibility for the damage. Unless you can prove that they did something which caused it, they will simply say it was a coincidence and it would have happened anyway. Best you deal with this matter through your insurance company, let them determine how it happened and who was at fault.

Firstly, it's sad to hear whats happened to you. I hope either insurance or VW Australia will sort out this issue, as it is not your fault that this incident has occured. I'd definately demand a loan vehicle, and wont leave until you get one (even if it means having to ask nicely first, then ranting and carrying on if they say no to you).
VW should replace the car as it wasnt your fault and as someone mentioned (we live in a wishful world) - as smoke is almost impossible to get out of the vehicle as it'll sit in the vents, the seats and the carpeting and the any other fiberous materials (from previous experience in wrecking parts off a burn out pre-delivered vehicle).
Hope all goes well for you and keep us updated!GTI|BBS|Forge|Whiteline|Custom CAI+K&N|Sparco|Toyo|Martini|JVC|Focal|ScanGaugeII

ive had it for about a year after it was a demo. Surely they will accept responsibility after having possession of it for 10 days then this happening within 20 mins of me driving it.Originally posted by GT3 View PostHow long have you owned your Polo GTI? Even "if" the service department didnt accept responsibility then this fault has to be covered under warranty.
As I said earlier my insurance wont touch it because its mechanical - the insurance covers cars involved in accidents, thefts, or someone lighting it on fire. Neither of those happened.Current - MY12 MK6 GTI, CW, Detriots, dark tint, APR Stage 1, blacked out grille, LED tails, Euro plates, suspension "tweaked", VCDS tweaks

Thats horrible news, know exactly how you feel. Happened to me in the begining of year, looking back it's funny as I was trying to blow it out the fire with my breathe, it than only got bigger
lucky petrol station lent me the fire extinguisher. Now I have a fire extinguisher in the boot,
Apparently my fire started from a malfitted alarm.
Hope all goes well with you.

Fire damage is not a warranty item. When you call, only speak to the service manager and let him investigate the matter. In the meantime, read your insurance policy in detail as you could be covered, if unclear, contact them to be certain. More importantly, stay calm and persevereOriginally posted by Koz View PostEven "if" the service department didnt accept responsibility then this fault has to be covered under warranty.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. You are obviously not insured through Shannons.Originally posted by Koz View PostMy insurance company wont cover it because its from a mechanical fault.
I might just push for a new R32
Our old Type III sedan burnt, Shannons paid the agreed amount, refunded the towing fee AND I got to keep the car, which was sold for another $500.
Anyway, I hope it all works out well for you.

what about fire damage which is a direct consequence of a mechanical fault? surely that should be covered by warranty?Originally posted by GT3 View PostFire damage is not a warranty item. Keep us posted , thats sickening. I recently heard of a SAAB being serviced in a place which i cannot name , but it made it 200ks and fire started in engine bay, service manual was left on top of the engine!!!!!!! Great quality check done there.

that's such a shame, as was said earlier, talk to the boss & don't get emotional, just stand your ground & I'm sure that you'll get the right result.

I had an Escort many years ago - went up in flames on the front garden as i was trying to start it. The insurance company fully payed for it. how can your insurance co. say it was from a mechanical fault? I presume they wouldnt even had time to assess the damage yet, let alone determined the cause.Originally posted by Koz View PostNo they didnt give me a loan car because they were booked out and the problem happened out of the blue & i hadnt booked to come in so i let that slide.
However, im not going to be taking no for an answer for their problem! Even if it means I go to Volkswagen Australia.
My insurance company wont cover it because its from a mechanical fault.
