In reality, you can only make a shopping-trolley hatchback so fast.

Turbo is a good start, a K04 or Frankenturbo or similar is better. Front mount 'coolers and free-flowing exhausts are good, too. Some quality suspension and some decent bushings to control the chassis is certainly getting things going better, along with some larger brakes to make it stop again.

However, you can only go so fast with a silly open differential, especially with the added handicap of FWD.

I ask, Where to with this?

We know the crown wheels can be different on any day of the week, so it's a gearbox out and measure, even before ordering the diff for our standard gearbox (which i'm not confident in anyways)

We also know, with some out-the-box thinking from our UK friends, that you can get 6 gears under the bonnet, but I ask... Which box? Is there any preferences of those available, or any particular car we should be thieving these from? For those with and LSD fitted, which would you choose again?

Essentially i'm thinking 6spd and LSD into my car in the future, but want to figure out exactly how I might go about it, BEFORE i get my hands (probably very) dirty.

This'll be a while off, you may still take that crown yet.

GF has a 2.0/6spd in her FSI Jetta - It pulls more revs down the highway than my car - hence what had me thinking...

I reckon it is 02S Lee, the 02M is physically much bigger with different mountings from the pictures I looked at. Though it has the internal slave cylinder like the 02M.

Re the LSD, depends if it's being circuit driven, or just straight line. If circuit, you want a clutch plate style not a torsion. The people who I've spoken with how know the difference, all say the extra money of the plate LSD is worth every cent.

If the car is off the road, the the crown size is much less relevant unless you're ordering from overseas with months as the lead time.

In speaking with my wheel aligner guy who does the setup for race cars, he suggests a plate diff is worth 1-1.5secs on lakeside (2.4km circuit). Guy Harding advised a plate diff is around the $4k fitted. Big coin for 1 sec... [emoji20]

I'd probably put a Quaife ATB in, they drive nice without being intrusive on the street and would be a huge improvement on the current open-wheeler-peeler, even if not a total winner for the last tenth on the track.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, and it's half the price from my loose research. I was comfortable at that price point, no so much at $4k considering the value of the car. 1-1.5sec would be a nice gain, but I'm only out there for a laugh rather than a lap time.

Just that the feedback is suggesting it's worth the extra coin.

I'll put my two bob's worth in here.
Some of you will know that I chucked my low km but used torque-bias diff in the bin, never to be seen again.
When coming hard out of tight corners on the track it made the inside (lighter weighted wheel) to spin & grab & spin in a savage way.
My thoughts are that it only put a lot of extra stress on the gearbox.
I found that the plated diff has made things a lot easier to get better times, then ya can look at other things to get the extra tenths.
Now there are some side effects of the plated diff, being some clucking, just like a rear wheel drive plated diff.
But ya have realise that the Little Blue Girl only gets driven twice a year to Wakefield Park to track & back.
The funny is that she doesn't have any clucking after the track day, which could be from the Red Line Shockproof Gear Oil, I have read somewhere that this oil puts a coating on the gears, so I don't worry too much about the noise, it sounds masculine in a way, just like super performers.

Why not a WaveTrac? That's my current leaning as it is mainly a TBD but does have some locking if it differentiates too much.

Peter Jones ran a Peloquin in his old MkI and then changed to a WaveTrac (before building the Kamei and transferring the WaveTrac into that) and said it was noticably better. One wet/dry track day, he said that he felt he would have spun it a couple of times with the Peloquin but the WaveTrac steadied the car - I imagine this was in those situations mentioned by Eddy where his Peolquin made the inside wheel spin/grab/spin in a snatchy way.
