Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

How is it that when my car is up on the hoist and when I spin one wheel the other moves with it in the same direction - LSD? I hope so. Is there any circumstance I'm missing where a single spinner won't have the opposite wheel turning the other way that I'm missing?

More than likely it's evidence of the friction between the differential gears. Hold one wheel and have an assistant turn the other, in neutral of course, and see what happens.

So a tight open diff then. Never seen that before atleast not with my RWD cars. Bugger! I was beginning to hope that the unassuming retiree that I bought the car from had withheld a few secrets about its past.
