  • Removing front VW badge

I've taken the grill off the car as I'm trying to take the VW badge out of the actual grill.

Has anyone done it? I can't get it out!!! There are 3 clips holding it in but 2 of the clips are poorly designed IMO.

I figured that might be the case, I gave it a go yesterday but it wouldn't budge. I'll have another effort tonight.

I hate dealing with plastic clips as they don't go well with elbow grease haha

Yeah I removed the honeycomb grill with the badge.

Edit - Got it. The top and bottom right clips need to be lifted out then twist it clockwise and out she comes. I was twisting the wrong way...

I wrapped it in black vinyl. Instead of painting it and not liking it I've gone matt black vinyl and so if I don't like it I can peel it off.

The rear badge is a little harder since it is glued in

heat gun perhaps to loosen the glue?

I wouldn't say that it is glued on but it would be very strong double sided tape! Sean hit it with the heatgun and loosen the glue then with floss or a thin piece of sewing string cut it off behind it.

The badge is recessed so it would be hard to get behind the badge with wire.

Sean are you planning on making the flat at all?

If so you don't worry about it then, use a heatgun and heat the bagde a little to make it warm. Then with a flat head screw driver with some tape around it pry it up with the screwdriver nice and easy, then you just need to weld the thing flat just like my VR was exactly the same process

                        Sean~
You could also use some DW-40 to take it off, if you dun have da heatgun or something
