Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Beefing up the rear end of the Polo

I personally think the rear end of the Polo GTI is a little lame and was wondering if anyone had come up with any ideas to get a little bit of character or attitude back there.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

NOTE: please don't post up pics of body kits as i'm only looking to do something to the rear end, and just an aftermarket rear skirt would look a little out of place.

    Cheers,
    Rhys

Wheel spacers to give a bit of poke...

    And colour coded rear valance.

    Delete wiper.

Doing something to those exhaust tips would be a good start - I'm sure I saw some nice pics on this forum somewhere of a Polo with a fairly inexpensive set of new exhaust tips installed that gave it a much more aggressive stance.

I've been digging under the car myself seeing if there is room to run symmetrical exhaust outlets - a la R32. That would certainly make the rear end more aggressive - but it looks like plumbing around the spare wheel well makes life difficult.

Dont quote me on this, but I'm sure I have seen a Polo GTI driving around my neighbourhood with the R32 exhaust treatment... so it can be done.

Agreed - the Polo's rear end is too timid and visually/design wise, its weakest point. There's one thing that helps a lot - DROP IT. When I installed a Koni Sports kit, the rear end looked 100x better! Other than that, you could get a Cup rear end if you want to spend the bucks.

              Nice on alex!
I'd take out the handle for the boot and install a solenoid release for an even cleaner look.

              Clear lenses too
and yeah, maybe the R32 twin exhaust!

Take a look at the black rear lights from inpro... maybe add some exhaust tips like mine.... also I wouldn't mind seeing a polo with part of the rear skirt painted/part left grey, like some of the golf gti guys have done.

Reason the Golf GTI boys get the rear valance colour coded is that the entire bumper is black. We're lucky we've just got that small section on the bottom. I think making that a smooth, high gloss black instead of a plastic bumpy look would be awesome. And the moment someone finds a way to use the boot release from the Golfs and get rid of the boot handle, I'll be in on that action.

                    Oh Paul

Reason I suggested something "like" the golf -

Look closely at the Polo it has two sections on the lower skirt... similar to the sections on the Golf. Granted it isn't the same size as the Polo, but the designs are alike.
                    Exhibit A:

It would look good to paint part of that section like the Golf owners paint their rear.
                    Exhibit B:

lol that's a rip. I think I'll get mine tinted it's cheaper and I can take the tint off.

Those tips look nice mate. Were they a special brand or just on a stand at an exhaust shop?

dump it on its ass, delete the rear wiper, delete the boot hatch, colour code the bumper and whack on bigger ehaust tips. oh but keep the VW badge and wear it with pride thats what id do anyways.
