First is it worth getting a DV?
    Second which would you suggest?

I had a Forge 008? Apparently the stock DV can leak when you increase boost, or so the story goes.

I believe a BOV will throw codes. You need a DV.

Yup ^^ this is correct. The car will be a pig and throw codes if you vent to atmosphere so must be a DV. There are alternatives to Forge, some have commented that Forge DV makes it a little less linear, or feel more aggressive when coming on boost, though I also ordered other parts from them at the time so it was easiest to add to the list. I'm happy with mine.

I'm happy with my Forge 008. I happened to do it as a standalone change and noticed that the car was a bit sharper coming on boost.

You'll need to upgrade the DV probably only after you get a tune. I upgraded my DV with my tune. When I had to reinstall the original to fault find something it started to fail pretty quickly.
Turbosmarts' version of the the Forge (a piston type) is the Universal Kompact plumback 25mm. I got this after a bad experience with a forge copy from ebay - it had a tiny splits where the intake pipe was press sealed onto the main body and leaked. Pretty impressed with the quality of the turbosmart and I like its simple and understated look. Advantage over the forge is that you can buy them locally with local support generally for less $.

I have had a Turbosmart Kompact series valve on my car before and am now running a GFB Hybrid BOV fully plugged and set to recirculating, i don't think there's much difference between the two performance wise... But the GFB does sound a lot better than the Turbosmart when you put the trumpet on, sort of like a really loud whip!
710N is good too if you want a cheap option

+1 for Forge 008. Sounds plenty loud with airbox mods / bigger intake section without being ricey.
