Farewell!

So after 8 happy years of ownership (my previous record was about 2.5) I traded the polo in yesterday. It was a fun and reliable little car that I still enjoyed driving every day. Hoping that whoever ends up with it next has just as much fun tearing around the hills. I probably need to find a new forum now so thanks to anyone who has given me tips and helped me sort out the couple of minor gremlins. A very friendly a helpful community. Cheers folks

part of me thinks that i should still get one as a secondary runabout (hard - i love the nissan cube).

How's the 208? Great looking car. Seems like Peugeot is having a return to form recently.

Yep it still felt tight and light on its feet with a new set of tyres. They're a pretty good deal second hand now. As far as the Rex is concerned ... well as much as I loved the polo, it wouldn't see which way the suby went after the first corner. The turn in and grip are in a very different class.

Both good fun though, and that's the most important thing to me.

How's the 208? Great looking car. Seems like Peugeot is having a return to form recently.

It's great. Peugeot has finally figured out how to combine handling and ride comfort AGAIN. I owned a 306 GTi6 years ago. This 208 has some of that feel in the twisties. The Polo never was all that great in the corners. Soft handling and a rough ride. Engine (apr) was great though and it made a great long distance car for such a small vehicle.

The 208 is all together more advanced. Engine is out of the Mini Cooper S but tuned closer to JCW levels. Not short of acceleration and it still gets 6.1L/100 on a cruise back from Melbourne. Has a wide track feeling to it... very stable in corners. Faster you go the better it feels. The Fiesta ST crossed my mind for two sec... too hard riding, tacky interior, RS200 was too exy and the engine/gearbox is crap around town. Interior was great. 208 was the best of both worlds.

I think Subaru has got it right with the new WRX. It builds on tech and refinement whilst keeping a bit of the old mongrel WRX feel to it. From all reports the handling is a standout. And they are bloody cheap for what you get.

Pug 205 GTi 1.9 was the best car I owned, ive always had VAG cars in some shape or form though even when I had the pug. Enjoy your new car mate

the more i see the new wrx, the more i think it looks actually pretty good

people say that black wheels are a tad overdone, but i think yours looks pretty schmick!

hope your pog gti went to a good home - they're fantastic cars. if i wasnt planning OS trips in the next 6 months i'd be all over one (or another diesel - the 9n polos are just great, comfy cars).

I'm thinking about trading my Polo and another car for the new WRX too. Can I ask how much they gave you as a trade?

Yeah they gave me 6.5 for it, with the rex for 42 on road (so changeover 35.5). I reckon I might have got about 8 for a private sale.. I dunno, theres some cheap ones on car sales. It was coming up for a few maintenance items (brake pads, rotors etc) so was easier to trade. Have you taken a new rex for a drive? I finally got to take mine for a solo run in the hills this weekend, lots of fun
