  • Exhaust Warning Light

Whilst driving home today I got an exhaust warning light. I have already noticed a couple of people on here have had it - one was for a faulty oxygen sensor and the other for a cracked vaccum hose. Other than the light, the car seems to be running fine.

Has any one else had the warning light come on? What was your diagnosis? Did you notice any deterioration in the car? I am interested in knowing as I am sure the dealership is going to dismiss it as a 'false alarm' because nothing is obviously wrong with the car

      maf

mine was mass air flow meter that was replaced after 600km. the error message was fuel too lean and the oxygen sensor was tested among other things - eventually it was the MAF. With the dodgy MAF, i noticed in the morning when starting the engine, that the exhaust was giving inconsistent sound (ie. loud then low then loud etc etc) for the first couple of mins. Then it comes good...

The earning light is now back on after 14,000km but this time the error message relates to some lead connection. Booked in the dealer in couple of weeks to look at and also to resolve dash creaking noise...

        Hoyhoy.
Nick, I was one with a cracked vacuum hose & the little girl ran fine.
My dealer in Tweed Heads was very helpfull & keen to remedy the situation, with instant service.
Have since had the light come on again & the little girl ran fine this time also, but this was due to a high flow cat. installation, rectified by Guy this time getting updated software.
        Hooroo.

The car maybe running fine, but when they scan it they'll get error codes telling them the problem. Also whilst it might be running fine, it may be using more fuel (or less) or causing problems you don't know about. Get it checked out at the dealer.

Also if you know some of us already had the problem, why not post into here instead of creating a new post. Just a thought for the future

Floody, reason I didn't post into the other thread is I thought it was an EPC light, not the exhaust light that I got. Unfortunately, the timing (6pm on thursday) of this problem also meant that I have to wait four days before a dealer could see it!

Its actually a blessing in disguise - me babying it around all weekend means I am less likely to speed on a DD weekend

                Update - the issues continue

At the end I did not take it to the dealer as by the end of the long weekend the light decided to clear itself.

However, last Wednesday night the light came back on. So first thing Thursday I dropped in to the dealer, who then said it was coming from the O2 sensor that it was 'bad fuel'. Now, I ALWAYS have 98 Octane and ALWAYS from a major supplier (lately Caltex due to no BP or Shell) so this came as a surprise. According to them, they tested the O2 sensor iteslf for a fault and it passed.

So it was cleared. I come home tonight, once again the light is coming back on.

My question - does anyone here in Sydney have a VAG-COM? Sometime this weekend, I want to clear it again, and wait to see if it comes back on with a different batch of fuel.

Do you always get your fuel from the same Caltex?

I have only got it from Caltex a couple of times. Both times when the light came on, they were from seperate Caltex stations, both on the Great Western Highway and only a few kms from each other. I imagine they would get the fuel from the same tanker.

I have serious doubts about it being the fuel, otherwise everyone on this forum who fills with Caltex would be reporting this problem. But I want to rule it out in my mind completely before I go to the dealer and really put my foot down.

BTW, is Seb open on Sundays?
