The ipod kit set for VW on VAG parts website. Does that one work for our cars? It's much cheaper to import it than buying it locally from the stealers.
Please let me know!
Thanks.
06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.
One of the things I had optioned when I got mine in January was the VW Ipod adapter. Silly me thought a fusion of VW engineering and Apple would be quality....
I can only say don't do it.
Reasoning
The Adapter sits in your glovebox, you can't have the ipod outside of the glovebox without having the glovebox open otherwise it crimps the lead (unbelievable but true)
When you plug your ipod in ALL functions become non operable, you can only change the track via the track forward and backward button on the stereo, its very inflexible and ruins it in my opinion.
The damn thing doesn't switch off when you turn off the ignition so you have to disconnect it and turn it off otherwise it sits there charging and draining your battery!
I wish I had saved the money and installed a different none VW one
I hope this helps you not make the same mistake, and it is a mistake. I'm very disappointed in it, although still use it to play my tunes.
Read here as well

the best way to use the adapter is to either:
-select the playlist/artist before you plug it in OR
-have custom playlist (up to 6) named 1 to 6 that you can select with the buttons on the cd player. the 1st 6 playlist on your ipod are selectable with the buttons 1 to 6.
i have an aftermarket head unit with the i-pod adapter and it is great. can change playlists, select songs by name or artist, change volume, skip, fast forward and rewind, pause. it also turns off with the car so will not drain the battery. the only time i take it out of the glove box is to take it inside and update my songs.
How does the Ipod adapter plug-in to the factory head unit? Does the factory head unit have RCA in or out? I dont really want an Ipod, I have other things in mind.
Agree Grant, and thats how I run it but for 350 hard earned its a bit, well, a bit crap if you ask me.....Just my opinion, wish I'd spent it on an aftermarket.
if your looking for an aftermarket ipod thing look at harma kardon. im not sure of the model number but its their only ipod adapter for a car and it looks pretty cool. after i purchase the polo gti and have bit of money i will be looking into getting one of these. my 5 cents worth
I got the VW iPod adaptor thrown in, so can't complain.
If it is any consolation to those who have it, it's better than the BMW MINI one - at least this one shows track details on the iPod itself, and doesn't require specifically named playlists to work.
As far as setting up playlists, just make your first five the ones you want in the car - the sixth plays all tracks on the iPod.
