Hi All,

I'm having trouble with my CD player in the Polo GTI. There're a couple of issues I want to check with you guys before taking to the dealer.

Firstly, do everyone else get audible CD reading sounds while playing a CD? I can hear it very clearly when playing mp3 cd's and also audio cd's. It is intermittent and sounds like a beep beep noise. This is especially audible when you turn the volume to Mute.

Secondly, does anyone have problems with MP3 cd's? I have yet to have a problem with audio cd's but with mp3 cds, some tracks do not get played and my CD gets ejected with CD ERROR. For some tracks, this happens All the time, and I'm wondering whether this is due to a particular encoding that the cd player don't handle. For other tracks, this happens intermittently, sometime in the middle of a track, the CD ERROR occurs. I have tried to burn the discs at different speeds, using different discs, but all to no avail. Is this a fault with my CD player?

Oh, and the other day, my CD player turn it self off, and when I turned it back on, it went to "LEARN" for the 2nd time I had to turn it off and back on again....

i have the same problem when i play mp3 cd's
it will play fine but when i turn the engine off and turn it back on again the player won't read the cd and it will say cd error and then eject it
also i can hear the cd reading sounds too
if you are able to fix it or know what the problem is please share it!
but yeah ur not the only one!

Hey...I had my CD player fail to read any CD's and dump all of its FM radio pre sets... Haven't had it since though.

My CD player wont read some mp3's at all. It just does not recognise some of them as being on the CD. I have stopped burning my music as MP3 for that reason. Other than that I cannot report any other funny business

My RCD200 doesnt have the mp3 function but I can vouch for the noises it makes when the CD's are spinning. I've had mine for over a year now and so far it's probably dumped the memory thrice, and it only happened about 2 days ago as well for the 3rd time. I've asked before at VW and they said they're sorry that they couldnt replicate the fault. Problem is, the damn things fix themselves each time after you punch in your 4 digit code, so they cant pin point whats wrong and when you take it to the dealers, it operates perfectly fine.

my radio sometimes doesnt show the display at all... turning it off and on a few times makes it work but yeah... other than that the beeping noises can be heard as well

The cd player in my Polo is horrendous. It suffers from all of the issues mentioned above! Bah!

Can't wait to throw in a proper unit

Does a standard double DIN head unit fit to replace the factory CD player?

i would assume so because i have a single DIN head unit in with an aftermarket plastic money holder thingy above it (the size of a single DIN unit). it fits in perfectly and looks really good.

NB: I JUST HIT THE BIG 100 POST.....WOOHOO!!! no comparison to some ppl on here though
