  • Ultra Racing Strut Bar Rattle

Noticed a weird issue with my car ever since putting this strut bar in, the front right suspension would regularly rattle when turning on a decline, I posted threads about this a while back, it sounds like a rattle from the strut top.

I Removed the bar for a few months and the issue went away completely, recently replaced it and the rattle is back

I tried re-seating the bolts and making sure everything including washers is in as firm as possible, yet it doesn't appear to help with the rattle, anyone with this bar or any strut bar notice this issue or know how to fix it?

    Cheers

Sorry this isnt going to help your problem but how does the strut brace feel while driving? More responsive etc?

It's not flexing and then rubbin on the bonnet or something silly, is it?

I've got an ultra racing front strut bar, no banging on mine. In saying that, the front under body brace didn't fit when I asked the brakesplus guys to fit. I hadn't bothered to try fit myself, effort to get under. So I question the quality control. The rear under brace fitted fine and no problems with the front.

jz - for the majority of driving you won't notice, but if you drive hard in the corners, or on bumpy roads, there's greater strength/chassis integrity. Chassis doesn't flex as much. For the majority of enthusiastically street driven cars, not really worth it IMO for the polo's. Larger cars, or track driven, it's worth considering. It's made no difference to lap times on street tyres, but corner feel is a whisker better when on the limit.

Thanks Sean, it fits the car perfectly, I did apply a thin strip of rubber under each side to prevent it scratching the paint but dont think this is the issue as its squashed to a mm of its life

It definitely ain't flexing, if anything its too stiff, Strange thing is sometimes its fine and you don't hear it for a while, then on certain surfaces it will re-occur, you can feel the feedback through the steering wheel

jz - after driving the car without it for a month having the UR rear sway bar installed, I noticed the car leaned more to under steering when cornering even normally, the bar actually improves the turn in when cornering, however all this structural tightening comes at a cost of comfort, bumps are no longer absorbed by torsion flex thus you feel every bump about 20% harder, yet i still love having it there as it really does tighten up the front end.

I used to have a knock when having a little lock of steering on bumpy surfaces. I thought it was steering rack rattle as it transmitted back through the steering. I had new front rotors and pads fitted a fortnight ago and that rattle has disappeared so far. Perhaps pads rattling in the calipers...
