  • Pending Purchase 9N3 GTI

    Hi Guys,

Those of you who read my previous thread know that I'm in the market for a 9N3 GTI Polo.

Selling my MK4 GTI and now I'm hunting for the right Polo.

It's proving extremely difficult to find one without bloody dints/dents on it!

I'm tossing up between Red or Black. Does anyone know what the Red paint is like? Does it fade easily?

I like the red because the colour has the advantage of making visual mods standout. I also like the black because it's not as in your face.

If anybody knows of any Polo's with good body work, no mods for around the $11k mark, let me know .

I have actually found a nice black one but it has Leather interior :/ and I hate the leather!

Heated seats don't do it for me what so ever.

Does anyone know how much work it would be to swap out with cloth interior?

When I was looking I didn't notice any issues with the red paint work.

The red brake calipers fade to pink on all them from what I have seen

Personally my preference would be white, silver, red then black. Black cars do heat up more than the lighter colours.

I use my seat heaters in QLD Dave, don't discount them as a gimmick. I wouldn't swap the interiors. The red paint isn't like Tornado pink on the MK2 either. My paint is scratched to death but it's still red.

Surely you can find one with cloth if that's what your heart is set on.

White is out for me, I've had a white car before and it's disheartening spending hours cleaning it and it looks the same :/.

Never really been a fan of silver cars. So that just leaves Red or Black. I'm not a fan of the blue either really.

Haha, it's not the heaters really, I just can't stand the leather :/.

I find cloth is much more comfortable.

Just called about another Polo just to find out this one also has a dent!

Seriously, what the hell is with these people!

          SIGH!

I can see discount not dent.

Whats the dent like, can it be pulled out?

I'm not too sure, I just hate dents.

Scratches I can live with but definitely not dents.

I might give him a call back and find out what room there is for price negotiation.

Unfortunately with the level of consideration of much of the public, a door dent is pretty common for a few year old car.

A gti for $11k will typically have an excess of 100,000kms, if not mid 100's so is likely an 06, maybe 07. At that age, a timing belt should have been changed - 7yrs. A strong mechanical history should be a much higher priority than a dent. I'm thinking door-to-door dents, not the dent of a cow using your car as a scratching post (hehe, seen a near new STI have this happen). It's typically much cheaper and easier to fix a dent than mechanical neglect... just saying.

                            Hey Sean,

Thanks for that, yea I agree completely! I was just taken back at (what seems) like a complete lack of care from the owners.

I've been in touch with a friend of mine who used to be a panel beater and he think he'll be able to get a lot of dents out with a suction cup.

I've found approx. 5 cars with less than 120,000km for less than $11k so I'm more than happy with my choices at the moment.

Just got to find one in reasonable condition with not too many dents .

But yea service history and overall condition are my priorities.

Hilas, dependant on which one I go for, I might hit you up on that.

I've decided not to rush into it, going to give it a few weeks and assess all my options/needs. I may even up my budget for a nice condition red one .
