    Hello everyone

Just wondered what peoples opinions were on Fuel Pumps.
Who Tracks their cars? who has replaced their pumps and with what?

I see you can get a drop in like a APR but is it better to go with a surge tank to avoid surge while cornering

    Thoughts ??

Not experienced surge with my Polo and Anthony has never reported it. I have just upgraded the std pump with USRT drop in.

I think it was Lito that just got a nice new inline with surge tank for his Golf. Definitely don't be doing an inlne without a surge tank. It'll struggle to pull fuel through the in tank.

TBH unless you are going for a bigger turbo, it would be money you didn't need to spend. Going bigger turbo next year? Then get it now. That would be my thinking.

Thanks Gavin, would that be the Genesis Genesis Mk4 High-Flow Intank Pump : USRT, Usually Sideways Rally Team

They don't make this anymore, they are working on a Genesis II but seems to have taken the last 10 months and still not ready. From the pics, it looks like it will be a lot more expensive as it uses lots of billet/machined/custom parts

Oh has Anthony's car done proper track days or just happy laps, with the Hankook RS3's on a tight track it really has high G's on cornering

He has only done Happy Laps but don't let that make you think he isn't trying hard. Maybe look at alternatives then if the mk4 pumps isn't a goer.

The pump in the USRT is the same spec as the 8L S3/8N TT maybe R32, so you could go there for an alternate?

TBH, sounds like a solution so advice is no longer required. The USRT spiel on that page seems about right except the discussion of fuel starvation.

The OEM basket and pump is a very clever design, it fills the basket before it starts to pump fuel, and always draws from the bottom of the basket. The basket is pressed against the bottom of the tank, and will draw to the last 1/8in of fuel or so. I can't imagine this would ever cause starvation under cornering.

USRT are probably right though about fuel flow and HP limits though. I've got my TT pump to flow about 25% more than the polo pump (big let down actually). Gav isn't warning me about fuel problems at 7000rpm, and on its second tune this is about 275 crank hp based on mass flow figures. Fuel lines to the engine would need to be flow tested before dollars spent to go higher.

Gav is likely right about the genesis pump though, if only you knew the VAG part number!

I have the number but a google would find it on audi-sport somewhere.

Don't want to sound like a snob, but kind of want to put the best of everything, so thought i might as well do it properly
Did not want to spend that much right now, but oh well

Fair enough, from your previous detail to mods, I shouldn't be surprised.

Tight tracks aren't really a problem as you don't sustain the G's for all that long. It's the long, fast corners where the fuel can be shoved over for a while where you can get pickup issues (eg Southern Loop at Phillip Island and maybe turn 12 and turn 1 at the Creek).

That said, with the pickup layout described by Bullet Fast, you'd have to be going out with a very low fuel load (probably around 1/8 of a tank) before you would even think about it being an issue.

I had problems last time at Winton, it could be the walbro i put in the tank. I dont want to go back to the track again and have problems, who knows it could be something else

So guessing i will go all out with the 034 surge and 044 pump

If you had fuel starvation issues on the track, you'd be looking for bits of melted piston, not a fuel pump upgrade!
                            Cheap, Fast, Reliable. Choose two.

This, it doesn't take long to destroy an engine by leaning it out! The genesis 1 flowed plenty for my 386cc injectors at 4bar but would go into the 13s afr with the 630s. The stock basket is a great design and I would be very warey about replacing it with something else. I definitely vote the 034 surge tank but get the usrt harness to make install a lot easier! The 034 surge tank was tricky to find space for though and I can imagine in a polo bay it would be that much tighter but it's good for up to 600hp oh an even submerged in fuel the 044 is LOUD!!
