hey guys my brake pad warning light came on the yesterday, which is weird because only a couple months back i went to a brake shop to price some breaks but the guy told me i had heaps of pad left....well apparently not..the break pads arnt squeeling but can that still mean they are wearing low?

okay so i still defianmtley have a fair bit of pad left.....but clearly i dont have the knowlege or knowhow to do what you did, so what are my other options? do i have to take it back to the dealer? can i take it to any brake specialist to put new brakes on? what price am i looking at? does it remove that warning light?

Yank the light out yourself. Just unplug the sensor. Take the wheel off and scope around. Quite easy to do.

20bucks max to remove the sensors. Its easy as.

The only logical reason to disconnect it is if you're fitting pads such as Ferodo 2500's which don't accomodate the sensor.

Back on thread, if the sensors work on heat, wouldn't it be the done thing to do some trouble shooting and determine the problem...Maybe a piston isn't retracting enough after braking, causing the pads to drag and load up causing the heat. Maybe it is a faulty sender unit, and can be replaced under warranty. Yanking out random wires may work for someone who knows what he is doing, but if you piull out something wrong all together(like the wheel speed sensor cable for ABS/ESP/TC), then the random yanking won't look good when you are trying to explain what you have done to the service department when you are looking to claim warranty work. As the bloke said, he hasn't got the experience when it comes to this sort of stuff. I'm a mechanic, but I always err on the safe side where it comes to brake stuff, cos you can always engine brake, but at the end of the day, your brakes save you from nailing that car in front of you.

Brake pad sensor are a complete circuit until they hit the discs and this breaks the circuit. If when you are using non standard pads these connectors require a jumper lead. Not sure how you managed to keep the light off by simply Yanking off the cable unless you are pulling it from the pads which means the circuit is still complete. When the disc strikes the connector and breaks the circuit thats when the light comes on . Interesting that you say heat as thats what brakes are all about (heat)
