  • Coolant Temp Sensor

    Hi

I've had a CEL that keeps coming back after repeated services. Just ran an auto scan and it threw:

16500 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Implausible Signal

I'm pretty sure the sensor has been changed a few times in recent services trying to chase the issue. Could there be any other causes? Is the sensor easy for me to source and replace myself?

    Cheers
    Ben

You can check the sensor out with a multimeter. The resistance will drop as the water temp increases. Could also be bad wiring?

The part number will be on it and you can get one from ebay pretty easily I am sure.

Sensor is easy to source, and easy to get too.

If i recall correctly its the sensor that sits on the coolant flange at the back of the head ( for longitudinal motors), or in this case on the very right end side of the motor for the polo.

If the sensor has been changed a few times already, it may indicate as mentioned by Gavin, wiring issues. Or even the sensor that has been replaced be the incorrect one? U can call up a VW dealer, and quote them the G62 code, and they should be able to search it up on ETKA to your VIN, and if their nice about it, provide you with a part number specific to your VIN.
