well i just rang him up and its november 2007 compliance. so still that is a pretty good deal??? he said for 26 i could get the navy blue demo with sunroof for 26 on the road but i thought this car has probably been flogged (i think one of the dealers had it as their cars rather than a demo with 8700km on the clock) so thought better to get without sunroof but brand new. im still in shock that i have bought a new car - im afraid of what i have gotten myself into but seeing how much people rave about this car i couldnt stop thinking bout it.

Mine was an 07 model bought in January for about 31k (including 4500 of extras). So yeah, you got an OK deal.

Thats a good deal IMO - as long as it is MY08. Being Nov 07 compliance should equal September 07 build which means it is an MY08 model. It is better to have the compliance in 2008 for resale value but I don't think you can complain for the deal your getting - I paid $29k for the same car as you but it was JUST off the boat!

To double check, get the VIN of the vehicle and ensure the 10th digit is an 8, indicating an MY08. 7 equals MY07. If it happens to be an MY07 - then it is only an average deal, sorta like mine

$26.5 drive away is a good deal regardless. If the car is plate 07,that's what they'll go by at resale time.Build date is everything.Compliance date means zip.
              Still a good deal though.

well i went into south yarra vw to go and sign the papers on an 08 build black gti with a tint thrown in for 27 grand and the lady couldnt approve the deal cos her sales manager was away and all the prices i had negotiated with her over the phone had been when her sales manager was there. so i figured i should look around at other dealerships (a little late in the day when i ould have physically gone to the dealership) and essendon volkswagen have a 07 build black gti with leather and sunroof for 29 driveaway. i know that that is a good deal but maybe over my price range but i thought if i could get them down to 28 driveaway than that would be a pretty good deal. problem with that is is that the lady from south yarra is ringing me on tuesday with a figure and i cant get to essendon before then. im not sure if i should just go with south yarra or take my chances with essendon and go there and try to haggle them down to 28. what do epople think?

Well it seems to me "the lady" is ****ing you around a bit, any dealer who lets you walk out thinking about trying somewhere else is not doing their job properly. So I'd be checking out the 07 car, make sure it's not a demonstrator, and haggling like crazy for 28k. Just make sure you set a limit and stick to it. If you end up walking out of there, no loss. Don't worry about playing games with "the lady" by stalling her for a day or so - she's made you wait so now it's her turn.
... I hope you've left a bit aside for insurance?

                    what does MY08 stand for

and how do we go about getting the VIN for the vehicle?

MY08 = 07 Polo built after August (I think it's August). Basically it's the newest 07 model there is.

VIN: It's visible through a little glass oval shaped window thing near where the passenger side side mirror.
