  • Side mirror fell off!

Have a 2008 Polo Gti with 40k kms.
6 months ago my side mirror was vibrating to the point I could not make out an image in it whilst driving.
Upon wiggling it, it was almost coming off. Gently removed and superglued back on.

Fast forward to now. Driving down the road @ 50km/hr when I heard a whack on the drivers door and glass smashing on the road behind me. It was the other mirror!

Gets me wondering whether the glue weakens due to the use of heating elements when clearing the mirrors in winter.
I don't use the heaters much and leave the knob set to off unless req'd.

    Has anyone else experienced this?
Dealerships are quoting $110-$120. Cannot simply buy the glass. Need the heating pad too.
Any suggestions on where best to buy?

    Thanks.

I bought the aftermarket ones from oriental parts when mine fell off.

Bit of trimmers' glue, job done!

    Cheers

Thanks Stuwey. Did you order the Blue Tinted product?
Blue Tinted Aspherical Side Mirror Glass - Polo 9N3 - Oriental Parts

What are they like? I can't find a clear version on OP site. Does the blue reduce light glare?

      What was the delivery time?

EDIT: As I only need 1 mirror, I'll probably go via local dealer for $110, as the pair on Oriental Parts is $80 + $22 freight = $102.

Yeah, I went the blue. I love it, everyone else hates 'em though!

        Delivery was about 1.5 weeks???

Happened to my drivers side mirror, I noticed it before it fell off.

There isn't much glue behind the mirror. I cleaned up the surfaces and used a reasonable amount of epoxy glue to reattach, doubt it will fall off on it's own again.

No warning on mine, just fell off. Had a look at the drivers side and it seems to be stuck on properly.

UPDATE: Pulled up to the garage last week and noticed the passenger-side mirror hanging by a thread. Peeled it off with almost no effort.
This was the one I re-glued with Araldite. Not a crazy amount but what I thought was enough plus 20% extra.

Might try the "trimmers glue"/epoxy suggestions posted above.

araldite is an epoxy resin. I'd be surprised if it came off if stuck with that, even with the heaters.
