clutch - how much milage are you getting?

My '07 with 95K's only just had the clutch start slipping now (fairly severe now, been about 4 months since first sign of slippage). APR tune since always I think. Previous owner said he used to downshift a lot... so that's probably why. I noticed it started to slip because traction control would activate, but I wouldn't be actually getting any form of wheel spin...

On the topic, has anyone gone the 14lbs flywheel? ECS has it cheaper than the 20.5lbs, and it just seems weird when the prices usually go the other way around. I always wanted to upgrade to a lightweight in my previous car, I just don't see much talk about it here on these forums. Is the torque loss really bad or something..?

I went the ECS 14lb unit at 80,000kms, purely due to the dual mass flywheel failing.

No real difference in the way it drives, and the whole 'loss of torque' thing is absolute crap.

Hmmm, I thought as much, nice to hear. On the gti-r forums clutch set up was a big deal because the gearbox was brittle.. Button clutches where the way to go, but only if you where a good with the pedal.

Guess I'll get to try out a lightweight flywheel for once coupled with stage 1 VR6 kit from ECS. My research suggests that that will hold power well beyond the capabilities of typical tuned 1.8T figures. Something else of interest I found, is that torque is the killer of stock internals, so the reduction of torque should help in that regard, I presume.

Mixed daily driving/hooning/Targa stage over 30,000 kms on my 'stage 1' ECS VR6 jobbie and no problems to report at all. Clutch pedal is actually lighter than standard!

ECS stage 1 in my Polo slipped in 5th under WOT with the frankenturbo at full boost. Now got a stage 3 cover and plate from 4 Seasons tuning to go with the ECS lwfw. Really light pedal but a little grabby from standstill, probably made a bit worse due to the Race density dogbone insert.

I regret not up speccing the clutch at the first install and saving money in the long run.
