I rung a brake specialist about two minutes from work, this is a place that our new/used dealer network use ALOT for small jobs.

Anyway i rung the guy and said i work at Suzuki around the corner and i would like my brakes done, already had the pads, just needed him to do the rest. Yep yep ill call you back and let you know what kinda brake fluid i can get and we can arrange a time, give me your number etc etc..

Well a week later im still waiting for a call back on my mobile.

Soo i rung another place and straight away he said bring it down (bout five mins from home).

    Place:Stopmaster brakes gateshead.
    Contact:John
    Telephonic communication device number:49 437 222

I supplied the pads (front & rear EBC greenstuff) and John fitted them and flushed fluid and replaced with PBR superdot4.

Cost (excluding pads) was $145. Now im not sure wether this is high or not. But i didnt really care as today was my last day off for god knows how long and i just wanted it done.

Result, Well the brakes squeek lol. I noticed that instantly. But what i also noticed was that the brake pedal responded to input much faster and harder.
Unsure if this will change after the pads are run in but i can tell already that they feel alot better and alot stronger.

Just driving gently for now, braking gently too for a couple hundred kms!

Cannot wait to give them a few good hits

Well originally i was told to ring a certain someone at Vsport in sydney.

When i rung about brake pads i was told fronts only would cost me $309, i almost asked if they contained flakes of gold in the pad.

I went to the place down the road and got EBC front AND rear for pretty much the same price as Tony wanted for front pads.

What was the name of the place where you got your front and rear pads from?

I find Vsport to be expensive!

          Place:Autopro in Mayfield newcastle.

If you do ring, say that Mitch from Klosters referred you. Hopefully should look after you more than tony at Vsport did for me...

When i bought the pads i noticed they had a coating on the surface which actually said ''break in coating''
Could this coating be what is making the pads squeel a bit on light braking?

Nothing serious, but just wondering if the noise will stay or go. Not fussed either way.

When I had greenstuffs on my astra, they squeeled a helluva lot.

I forget what brakedust was like, but keep us updated because the pads I've got on the polo are dusty as all hell (stock).

Yep! It can be worth sanding that off. Also, it makes the wheels very dirty to begin with (although Greens aren't much cleaner than stocks, IME)

It seems that you're brakes are not bedded in yet. The coating is there to bed them into the disc. The idea being that you do the following: travel to 60km/h then brake with steady force till you reach 10km/h, and repeat this approx 10 times. When you've done that travel to 80km/h then brake with steady pressure till 10km/h and repeat another 10 times. After that is done drive around for about 10 mins trying to use brakes as little as possible and if you need to come to a complete stop use as little brake pressure as possible to hold car stationary. After driving around for 10 mins.. park the car and let sit till brakes cool down to the ambient air temp approx 2-3 hrs. After all this your brakes are bedded in and should not squeak/squeal etc.. Ideally this should be followed as soon as the brakes are fitted. I know it sounds excessive but this is the proper way to bed brakes in for a road car.

                  Brakes bedding in

                  Thanks for the advice TDI,

Thats what i was doing when i drove the car home. Lightly applying brakes down hills to get some heat into them, then in my residential area just driving at 50 and applying brakes till almost full stop then repeating.

But ive only driven it once since i got the brakes done. Dont drive the GTI to work.

Ive just replaced my workhorse to get to A & B via C during the week.
Used to have a 89 White holden Astra with 1% tint, alloys and a sick stereo
Which was a wholesale jobby through work. Served me well untill the bottom end decided to shat itself after a couple decades of neglect. Bought it for $1000 and sold it a year later with no reg for $300. haha. Once again, wholesale'd.

Now replaced with an Emerald green ford laser 1.6 carby *atomic-world-destroyer edition* One owner with 279,xxx kms. Low profile high performance tyres (165/75/13's). Already made a few modifications to it, i removed the big plastic granny sunvisor on the back window and removed the purple/pink seat covers.

That's a very good price, Mitch. I just put EBCs on mine last month ... just fronts and the pads cost me $145 ... which Jimmymac said was a great price because the best he'd been offered them (at trade) was $180 plus delivery).

I used Martini fluid ... no squeaks, just good brakes.

Mitch, you were obviously misquoted on the Greens - that's way too much. Greens are ok on the street, but they aren't up to track use, which is stated on the packaging, and they'll cook your rotors if you do. I've also used them and while they're better than stock, I'm not a big fan of them.

my brakes are squeaking too... it's only at a certain point of brake pedal position. all other places, and the car doesn't squeak at all.

With my previous car (Charade) tried a variety of pads - the absolute best were (believe it or not) Lucas. Cheap as chips and other modified Charade drivers who used to track their cars swore by them. They also tried Greens and found them to be vastly overpriced crap.

What I would use isn't relevant really, every pog set up and the needs of each driver/owner is different. The standard pads (which are lucas) may be fine for many, some may prefer the extra modulation that greens provide, and for those that need greater temp resistance, a track oriented pad may be the go.
