Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

thanks for the replies! seems like a good community

alright well i'll start of by saying i have 2 mates with s15's, ones pulling just under 200 kw which i by no means expect to beat, its insane.. and the other is on about 150 - he's the one i wanna beat he's been givin it to me hard and he's just bought a ****load more gear for it , i cant remember their 1/4 times but i will find out...
another mate has an rx-7 1993 model (never really got interested in jap cars so i'm not sure what series) but by the sounds of it you guys know your cars so you'll know the one i'm talkin about, 1.3L turbo rotary, its fkn quick..

and my last mate has a forester GT, not sure of the stats of it but i think a stock polo gti could beat it.

i dont wanna go all out with the stereo, just a sub box to fill that low end void left by stock speakers... which works out fine as it wont add much weight..

i'm not just buying this car to beat my mates, i'm buying it because i'm about due for a new car and want something cheap to run, fast, comfortable and something that wont drop in resale value very much.. beating the jap cars is just a bonus

a few more questions though, i heard that you cant put a blow off valve on GTI's as it f**** with the computer, is this correct? does that change once its chipped?

and where is the best place to acquire some Cold Air Intake modifications?

thanks for your time fella's you've been really helpfull, i'll make sure i put pictures up once its complete

That's got a WRX engine in it. A chipped polo will beat it if you drive it well, just.

A few people have commented and asked if I have BOV in mine but it is a plumb back that just sounds nuts. I have a Neuspeed CAI on my car that mounts a pod filter just below the battery in the passengers side guard. I have a Mk4 golf gti but it's basicly the same motor in the polo.

yeah with the BOV's, you need either a plumb back or dual port as the engine needs some feedback into the intake. a full atmosphere bov will mess with your MAF and stuff your engine in the long run... and no that does not change whether the car is chipped or not. some good bov's are the turbosmart kompact series (plumb back and dual port [search around the net for the best price]), or the APR one. these are probably the easiest to fit as they go straight on, and they are good quality.

All you'd really require is an intake (either a K & N filter with a SEAT intake), or a SRI/CAI (which may require you to purchase a smaller battery to gain such room in the engine bay). Chipping it will obviously be the huge kicker. You can however go overboard (which isnt really required) by having your entire exhaust system customised. Trevor down at CES has created some of the nicest exhausts I've seen (not to mention they actually have gains with a nice note). Any exhaust shop can fit your turbo-back, so just depends on your location and who have been deemed a better mob to deal with from other people's experience. I've dealt with Right Price Exhausts and they're a nice bunch down at Slacks Creek. Reasonablly priced with very well done craftsmanship, and fast turnaround.

A subwoofer can be added via the stock headunit. You need to tap a feed into the signal wires then use a line out converter. Power cable can be run down the RHS of the vehicle while to ensure minimal interference run the signal cable (hopefully shielded), down the LHS of the vehicle to your amplifier.

There are a stack heap of other modifications such as EBC greenstuff pads, Forge strut brace, Whiteline swaybars, coilover sets (varying drastically in price dependant upon which ones you purchase). Bilsteins I was quoted $3200 ex fitting, while a set of Koni's from the UK were only 350 quid. So do your maths here and weigh up the pros and cons of each kit and get the one that suits you. You can have your suspension done at Fulcrum.

There are plenty of other modifications that you could do such as a bodykit (not that the stock one looks nothing less than spectacular already). Internal modifications could range from the centre console cubby hole, headunit change, new speakers (stock ones sound pathetic). The list can go on and on, just depends on your own personal budget and needs.

*note that if you decide to have your complete exhaust system done, it would be advisable that it is done prior to chipping your vehicle. Furthermore, there is another company called Superchips (www.superchips.co.nz) that make a chip for the 1.8 GTI. However, the gains are softer compared to APR's gains.
What SEAT model intake would fit into the Polo? I am keen to find out because I have just bought a 2007 Polo GTI, and looking at doin the intake.

Anyone know where to source these in Melbourne? I'm picking my Polo GTI up next week, and I'm hoping to get seat intake, k&n filter, and 3" dump pipe then go get it APR chipped. I think that'll keep me pretty happy for a while.
Sell me your Polo GTI 9n3 and/or go fast bits.... please

Hehe I used to spend a few $ on car audio (sq orientated)... with the polo though, I'm just going to sd the doors, install a new h/u down the track, amp up the stock splits a bit and run a small sub.
