Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Information: Power steering feel / weight

    Hi guys,

I've posted up a thread about my car steering feel is much heavier than the one driven as a demo at the dealer. I was wondering if my power steering fluid was running low, as my tyre pressures were bang on (42/40).

Got the dealer to service it and mentioned it, and when I picked up the car, the steering wheel was light as! I did not like it much actually...

Thus, went back today and found out that there are three different settings for our Polo GTI steering.

    1) GTI (heaviest)
    2) Normal (1.4 litre Polo lightness)
    3) Handicapped.

My car was set at handicapped level... it was like I could turn it with my finger. I actually took it back, because it was making like electric noise when I was turning, and I think the load was too much.

Anyway, now the car is set at GTI level, and it feels as heavy as my dad's BMW 330 M spec. Feels very nice again! (where it was before)

If you guys have any problems or feel that steering feels a little light, go to your dealer and ask them to change the setting back to the 'GTI'.

Hope this info is useful for some.

Thats great info, I can hear my power steering work too. I have to take it back next week to get a light switch fixed, so I might just ask the dealer to adjust my steering too.

This should be under FAQ, can I adjust my steering????

Yeah it's good to know that there is such function available!

So if you have strained your elbow / wrists from injuries, you can go to dealer to get it set light until the recovery!

Mine has very good weight now, feels fantastic to drive. Feels like a much bigger sports car.

Would be nice to have under FAQ.
