Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i think its like a mk4 golf it may have a hose clamp system to hold it on you will need to cut it off

It's clamped down. What you have to do is pull out the drink parcel/centre console, then remove your centre console (which is held in by 2 T20 screws), then you should be able to lift it off completely. Just be wary that the clamp is extremely tight (as I've tried to do a conversion after picking up the knob and boot from the wreckers).

not a bad looking shift knob, would definitely suit the interior with the red stitching and silver plastic/metal. make sure you post pics once installed

I have to say, I don't think it it as nice as the original. Especially since you don't have the leather trim that has red stitching.

Also with no H pattern, insurance might see it as a way to get out, they love not paying... My old car had racing pedals with no rubber inserts, I had to replace them before they'd insure me.

Hey tosspot, I can understand your point and as much as I love my car, at the end of the day its only just a 2 door polo and I found it’s not worth spending 2g's for the leathers. It looks better without the leather and it has much more character. Anyways that's just my opinion and I hope I don’t cause a controversy over this. I think it does blend in well because there are red stripes on the seats, the leather steering wheel has red stitching, the leather/plastic hand break has red stitching and the leather part of the gear knob has red stitching as well. The original gear stick was just plain boring. Plus, the new one now seems to be more comfortable.
