  • Digital EGT Gauge

Looking at putting an EGT gauge in my car.
Will probably buy an Auber Instruments:
Auber Instruments, Inc. Digital EGT Gauge with Exposed Tip EGT Probe [Combo-EGT] - Labor day sale ends on 9/1/2025The color of the LED display can be supplied in red, amber, green or white. The default is red. When ordering, please select the color of the LED. The gauge has a recall function which allows user to check the maximum or the minimum pressure and its occurrence time after run. The meter has a programmable alarm that can be set as a high limit or low limit alarm. The alarm is displayed on the front panel with bright LED that is very noticeable. The alarm signal can also be sent out from the built-in relay. It can turn on a buzzer or another device (such as a water cooler). The LED brightness can be synchronized with headlights. When the headlight turned on at night, the display will be dimmed by the illumination signal. It can also be dimmed directly on the key pad.  SYL-1813 Red     SYL-1813 Amber   SYL-1813 Green   SYL-1813 White The gauge is supplied with your choice of an EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) sensor.  It is a K type thermocouple sensor with exposed tip junction for fast response time. The probe diameter is 3/16", with several mounting thread options available (choose from the drop down list). The insertion

Could someone confirm which "Mounting Type Option" that I need to fit a Frankenturbo F23.
    Thanks.

The probe is in the downpipe on the S3/TT so you can use whatever you like. Have you had a new downpipe made for yours or are you using the adapter pipe?

The weld in stainless one would probably be the sensible one?

Are you tapping into the exhaust manifold collector?

I have got to check with Seb.
I am sure he said that there was a bung on the output side of the turbo.
          Could be wrong though.

Could be right actually. Gav would you mind checking one of your many snails?

Always better to read pre-turbo for EGT as there are a bunch of thermodynamics reasons that a post turbo reading can give you false/non-representative indications about whats going on.

Quite acceptable to drill and tap a manifold though if that's what you need to do.

Also, I just bought a boost/EGT guage set on ebay from an Australian seller.... racetech gauges, but ones with high reading recall and audio/visual warning aswell.

Forgot that I keep all that "useful stuff" floating about in the garage. Wait one caller.........

No bolt holes in the turbo fellas.

I guess that's why the manifold also lights up with the turbo when experiencing high egt's?

                    I found the answer.
The thread below mentions that the turbo has an M12 pitch hole pre turbine ready for an EGT probe.
As you cant get an M12 probe then a 1/8" NPT to M12 converter plug will be used.
                    VWVortex.com - F23 threaded hole-Exhaust leak?
                    Plug off ebay:
                    Metric Male M12X1 5 TO 1 8 NPT Female Fitting | eBay

Just ordered the gauge. $130 with the probe plus $12 for the converter plug.

Funny, the above thread also mentions issues with boost spikes caused by the actuators.

So if i was going to mount the probe directly into the cast exhaust manifold which fitting option do you recommend?

                        Cheers.

I ordered the 1/8 NPT Fitting only because there was a "Metric Male M12x1.5 To 1/8 NPT Female Fitting" converter readily available.

If you are going to install your own bung, then I am not sure if there are any advantages engineering wise with any of the other available fittings.

Question for our engineers out there. Maybe just order a fitting that is common for temp probes.
