I've never had a silver car, but now with the Polo this is our 3rd black.

I have found your comments on the silver & black interesting. Perhaps a silver may find its way into our home one day.

The discount applies as I was already with AAMI, which is the same deal as my parents being with them.

Either I got a good deal or you live in an extremely high risk suburb.
LOL High RISK wow my suburb must have crazy amounts of car thefts LOL YAY WESTERN SYDNEY wo0oho - i just did an estimate with aami and got $3,224!!

Driving since sep 2001 so gives me 70% NCB
            Tinted windows and Metallic Paint.

With NRMA im only playing $1,200 - so i don't know whats up with AAMI.. i much prefer the $1,200 to $3,000 considering i was paying near 1k for my 2001 Barina

I got my new Polo GTI 2 weeks ago and I also shopped around for insurance.

AAMI was the most expensive quote I got $3,700+

The cheapest ones I found were, Just Car, ING (the bank) and Commonwealth Bank (they did the initial insurance till I sorted something out).

In the end I went with ING they were the cheapest at just over $1,400. Big difference from AAMI.

As for the reliability of the Polo, I cant really comment. But I will add my 2 cents worth. As mentioned the drive train has been used in previous Audi, Seat and VW models so they must be on to a good thing if they are still using the same drivetrain...

Just a reminder: premium quotes can be meaningless unless you also include the excess. Just Cars and AAMI, among others, offer quite 'reasonable' premiums, provided you are prepared to wear a large ($2k) excess, so quoting their premiums without also this information is not especially informative.

Timbo, you're wrong. The standard excess is $500 with the age excess between $500 and $750 or something.

                  That's half what you said.

I don't know why the quotes would be so different.

Buddy, read what I wrote: I understand the standard/age excess thing; I was referring to the fact that certain companies including those mentioned offer higher excesses in return for lower premiums. If this is the case, I suggest it is helpful to post that information, along with quoted premiums.

with my a6 I had aami a nominated excess.Premium was $550,but excess was $2000.standard excess was $350.I felt that a lower premium and higher excess was the way to go.

Timbo is right.I'm insured with AAMI for around $740 with a large excess.
Mind you,my age may have something to do with it.....

                          What is your 'large excess'?

I've got the policy on my desk and it shows an excess no bigger than any other insurance company. And who cares about the excess anyway, don't crash and you don't pay. It's cheaper than most crashes or buying a new car if yours is stolen.

The quotes I gave were all the standard excesses.

As long as you state that, then we know

BTW, just be aware that, apart from the obvious, the premium reducing excesses become a problem when you have one of those accidents where you are not at fault, but either the other party can't be identified or is uninsured

My excess is $2050.AAMI have a scale of increased excesses over the standard $500 that reduce your premium.I am on the maximum excess, which reduces my premium by about another 30% or so from my normal NCB.
It used to reduce by 50% but they changed that.
As I've never had an accident that was my fault[touch wood] it's a risk I'm prepared to take.
When you get a quote on line,at the end it asks you "would you like to reduce your premium?"and offers the increased excess option.
Total premium is $756 for $26400 cover on a 2005 GTI.
