  • outlet size for polo GTI blow-off valve?

    hey all,
i'm looking at getting a turbosmart kompact series plumb back bov (RRP $259).

problem is, they come in 20mm and 25mm outlet sizes. does anyone know the outlet size to fit straight onto the standard piping of the polo gti?

to add to this, if anyone has or knows of someone selling a plumb back bov for a good price, please let me know.

The APR one is 299 I think - I highly recommend it. A good investment with a nice sound too.

If you are looking at Turbosmart you need to get the dual-port version...

You can use either - plumbback or dual port.. just not fully atmospheric.

Unless you get pulled up by the police or an RTA inspector, in which case you will learn what a defect notice is

Its fully adjustable from inside the car, makes a nice flutter when on plumb bak at low revs. So cops never know i even have it. However my point was that no engine check light comes on, not that it was illegal.

I think I read in another thread that a atmo BOV does funny (not haha funny) things to the engine. Cant remember specifically what it was.

I think I will go shopping for a full atmo BOV soon!

Full atmo valves on a MAF-sensored car (such as Polo GTI) are not a good idea as they cause a lot of backfiring on shut throttle and stalling at lights etc.. I'll explain -

This is due to the fact the ECU thinks there is air in the pipework between the MAF and the throttlebody (as the MAF has measured) and adds fuel but this air has now exited the pipework via the full atmo valve. This causes very rich mixures which result in backfiring and stalling as stated above

Good info, Mark. Since I'm an old fart ... I had the BOV put in the correct way round (who needs all the hiss and splash, huh?) ... so it works perfectly.
