  • question abt the gearbox

Do u guys find it hard to change the gear from 1st to second gear? around 4000rev . Is that only my gearbox problem? or thats normal? coz i find it is hindering me to get it into gear.
    Thz for u guys opinion.

Check out the Polo FAQs first. Rob has done a great job to catalogue these links to appropriate thread.

          Exactly.

I would probably bitch and complain if it were too easy to change gears as i have always been a fan of notchy gear boxes. Makes it feel tight and new.

Like a new GF, when they get too easy and not tight. Just trade in or send her in for warranty

Yeah, notchiness is worst from 1st to 2nd as well.

Also depends on how I shift...

if I hold the gearknob on the east side (hand on right), and shift it towards south west direction (down left) it seems to shift most smoothly.

The gearbox is not perfect, not as refined as others, but shifts well...

Let me put my 5c worth in. If your gearbox is fairly new i have a great fix for it. I learnt this years ago and i have been curing Porsches with it.
Ok ill try and make it simple. Leave your foot off the clutch and try to select gear. Try 1st gear 1st. Just nudge the gearstick forward till you feel resistance and with the handbrake off the vehicle will feel like it is wanting to roll forward. At this stage stop. Then do the same for second. This beds in the Baulk rings as they can have high spots. this is a fabulous trick if done right but awfull when wrong. Believe me it works. Several Boxters now fixed and back in the day this is all we done to the dubs to rectify such an issue.
Give it a try. It is worth a try if anything.
              Cheers

Hey Jimmy - will probably try this tomorrow - however the "terrible if done wrong" is a worry.

How can this be done wrong?

Also, do you reckon is 22,000kms a bit old for this trick?

you only have to push the stick till you feel the car creep mate and hold for a second. Try it . If it doesnt work at least you tried. The WRONG bit is when you hold on to the creep too long and you fry he baulk ring. Like i say just till the creep and hold for a second and back off.
                      Feedback would be good,
