  • Radiator Leak

    Hey peoples,

My partners 97 polo has a leaky radiator we've been told. We used to have to coolant in her every 6 weeks or so but its becoming more recent now. Does anyone know where we can get a 2nd hand one, new or an upgraded one?? We want to sell the polo in the not to distant future but dont want to give the problems to someone else nor do we want the head gasket to blow now.

    Thanks

    Jaz

      isn't the 97 model the 6N, not the 9N(3)?

If you have the years mixed up, there's a GTi being wrecked in Newcastle (and one posted here in Perth)

I would be concerned about a non-OEM replacement as they can have fancy fittings and brackets.

If you can find the leak, it might be worth considering if it can be fixed (welded)?

Nope, if it's 97 model, it's 6N mate. Have a look at your VIN/rego sticker, it'll read something like WVWZZZ6NZXW-------. The 9N started around 2002, so VIN is something like WVWZZZ9NZ3Y-----.

Pretty sure u will find that'll be an AEE engine. The thermostat housing, crack pipe at back of block and associated seals are all common parts to look at. Only way to test is with a pressure test

Ok Im a male appendage. Dont know why I said 97 its a 2007 So same question, our mechanic said it will be like a $700 dollar job. My partner has to top it up like every 2 or 3 weeks now.

Yep most likely cracked around the temp sensor on the rad, most likely needs new rad but would be cheaper than $700. Shop around.
