  • Prices for everyones custom downpipe or off the shelf ones.

    Hey guys

Im in the market for a custom downpipe to suit the 9n3, just wondering what sort of prices did everyone pay? Its roughly $660AUD to get a milltek one landed here from UK. Would it be a fair bit cheaper getting it made up locally?

    Cheers!

Omgoodness I pissed myself at 10:23...

On topic tho, I have the Milltek and it's not an exact fit. I would've prefered to get one custom made if I did it again, but I can't complain about the wicked sound of the system as a whole

What do you mean by its not exact fit =S , as in it doesnt mate up to the stock catback or from the turbo it doesnt fit correctly?

                  First few pics show it.
The flexi is in the wrong spot, makes things pretty tight. You need to bash some of the heatshield back so it doesn't rattle. I also had to remove the center cross brace under the car as the exhaust pipe sits too low and rattled on it. You would think that you could get an exhaust shop to bend it a little more on the dump section to fix that, but the pipe can't sit any higher because the o2 sensor on the cat is in the way.

Like any "bolt-on", it's not really bolt on. But they're little niggles in the end and I wouldn't change it for the world

(That said, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to get a similar sound locally with the right combo)

Sam, is your dump pipe for 9n3 or mk4 golf?

MK4 pipes need fettling to fit. You need Polo specific Sean.

Too late now! No it's def for the 9N3. It's a very close fit out of the box. It just took some creativity to get everything sitting perfect. I remember a member on UKPolos had similar trouble, everything "fit" there were just a few clearance issues. Apart from the end of the dump pipe sitting just that 5mm too low for the cross brace and the flexi being a few mm too fat, everything lines up as it should.

TBH the only reason I went with the Milltek was because I knew I liked the sound of that particular system. If I had to do everything again I'd get a full system done locally in mild steel with a 2.5-3" dump and try a few different mufflers on the back till I found one I liked. I reckon a Lukey or a Varex would be a nice way to go.

<EDIT> Gaddamit, you were freaking me out man! I had to double-check but see here --

A few people mentioned they had troubles getting it exact.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but Milltek state that you need their full system to use their 9N3 DP - so if you just buy their DP and try and use it with the stock system you're going to run into those kind of issues surely?

That's the only reason I never got one, their cheap as chips but once it's the entire system you're talking about $1400+shipping.

All good Sam, I could be wrong but I recall the system for a SEAT being advertised as being the same as the Polo but there were subtle differences.
