Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Finally something has broken on the Polo! (nothing major though!)

After 135k's and 7 years - My passenger side seat lever has broken! This is the first thing to break on the car without my help - it's a little annoying, can't get into the back seats without going through the drivers side. So the actual spring or whatever has broken, not the plastic - and as this is my first 3 door, I'm not sure how to fix it - anyone have any idea?

Sorry to take up a new thread with it, but it's not that common a thing to break first right?

Same thing happened to my drivers seat about a month ago.

However, after carting a set of wheels home in the back with the seats folded down, one rolled into my drivers seat a few times under braking.

Nek minnut - seat fixed. Works perfectly now haha.

So moral of this story is I need more wheels? Haha.

sounds like the release level connecting Rod has unhooked from the locking mechanism...

Have a look at the drivers side and work out how it works... put the seat in the lean forward position and look at the hinged area where you adjust the seat for recline (only if it is manual adjust). Usually there is a rod coming down from the lever and it hooks to the seat somewhere in the vicinity of the recline adjusting cog..

In My Recaro's the lever pulls up a hook that releases the top part of the seat from a Pin on the bottom part near the adjusting cog and seat falls forward.

I had a coin in the right spot to jam the folding mechanism. Think the details are in the last page or 2 of the Polo Problems & Fix Register.

Doesn't take long nor is it hard to just pull the seat out and have a look mate, 4 bolts max. Will give you a better understanding of the problem and how to fix it.
