  • Buying dilemma

I've been itching to buy a polo match 1.6 auto as my first car. But been hearing a lot of not so positive comments from friends that the vw is a high maintenance vehicle and problematic? service cost is alot higher compared to japanese cars.

Can someone give me a rough guide as to how much does it cost to service a polo? how often do you service it? I'm new to cars and don't know a whole lot bout them.

Went to a dealer on the weekend as they're doing driva-away deals. got a quote for the polo for the price of 23k (including metallic paint and seat height adjustment). The dealer didn't really give any room for more bargains, saying i was getting away with very good deal with no ORC. And he was pretty much selling me at almost cost price *which i think is pretty bs*.

So my question is how much can you haggle off a polo and where a good place to shop in Sydney.

    Comments are most appreciated

    hey caleb, welcome!!

servicing really depends who you go with, dealerships are $$, or alternatively, you can go to vw experts like derek from euro auto. Services are once a year, and is roughly $200 odd dollars.

I think the dealer is trying to steal away all your money, surely you can get away with a better pricing then that. sometime last year, they had a deal for a polo gti for 26990 driveaway. so, maybe that will give you the indication on what can be done. OR, you can save alittle more and just get a GTI

    good lucky with your purchase..

My mate was in the same position - he ended up with a Polo Match 1.6 6 speed auto. First service is at 15,000km and cost him $350~ - which is less than our previous Mazda 3's cost to service!

            Dealer service are dear.

The only way i would do dealer service is if the dealer was giving me an extended warranty (which require dealer service)

I didnt get extended warranty, so i just service through European car Centre here in newcastle.

The bloke barely speaks english (hes from Croatia) But the good thing is that he knows absolutely everything about euros.

Got my first service done not long ago. If i remember correctly it cost a couple hundred bucks ( i supplied oil and filter ) but he also drained gearbox oil, refilled with synthetic gearbox fluid and added a tube of Nulon diff and gearbox treatment.
Did a good job, and since it was soo cheap i gave him a tip too he seemed fairly happy lol.

Best of luck with your decision.

hmm. this is the other way in my case. when i bought the car, there was a deal which gives me 5 year extended warranty. I was iffying about going 3rd party service centre vs dealer centre, so i emailed the dealer servicing centre that i purchase the car from. And in the email, he replied that it's ok to go to other servicing centre as long as their service and parts are geniune. But best to confirm with your local dealer before taking any steps.

That seems like a bloody good deal Adam,

I know through our dealer network we give an Extra 3 years warranty ontop of your newcar warranty. Hyundai's get a total of 8 years , they have a fairly decent product now too !

Catch is that you have to use our service centre, which is fair enough. Its not only about providing the extra warranty, its about retaining service clients. Cant blame dealers for doing it

tinting and mats are worth nothing.

Sus out what other people have paid and offer a little bit less.

Mischa knows it. I'd only had one or two lessons when I picked up my GTI, stalled it 4-5 times coming home from Hornsby. Would never buy an auto again, unless I lived in the city and it was a 430 Scuderia
