Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Got It!

G'day peoples! Picked up my new Polo GTI last week... very excited! Beautiful car and I’ve fallen in love with it like everyone else on here.
Just wondering, what’s your cleaning procedure like? And... What products do most of you use? For the interior and exterior? I try to veer away from the car wash bays and I defiantly don’t use the brush! I got some Maguire’s car wash products and a microfiber set which I purchased from Micropack Australia http://www.detailparadise.com.au/mod...asc&highlight=. Not sure about interior yet. What are your thoughts on amoral?

Hopefully going to chip it soon...

    hey,
congratulations on the purchase (nice choice in colour)...many fun runs ahead. definitely get it chipped, it's a completely different car.

i've only had mine for about 3 weeks so atm i just take it to a car wash cafe which works a treat and comes up lovely. i have a friend who has a new car and uses all Meguiars products....he has done for some time and swears by it. i will have to look into it myself.

all the best with the new beast!

Congratulations...I've used Meguiars products for years.

I also still use Armorall after 20-30 years. Let the controversy begin!

        car washing, cleaning and protection

great to hear, archangel. i've had my black GTI for less than 3 weeks and have washed it twice and slowly getting through the interior.

        so far i have:

        - washed outside/paint using a microfibre cloth and baby shampoo/water. it works very well.

        - treated the leather interior with meguiar's foam, which made them look BEAUTIFUL (much darker, shinier and luxurious-looking). if you don't have the leather interior, this obviously wouldn't apply, but you could still use it for the leather steering wheel, handbreak, etc.

        - applied armor all new car protectant to the rubber/plastic/vinyl in the interior. not sure about this just yet. it's definitely not bad, but i possibly should've gone for the meguiar's instead. i'll see how it goes.

        this weekend i will:

        - apply a hard wax (turtle shell)
        - blacken the tyres (polyglaze, but will try meguiar's next)
        - clean windows (meguiar's nxt generation window cleaner IF it's safe on tints)
        - look for a wax for the alloy wheels. the Polo manual recommends 'wheel wax' and it makes sense to protect the wheels, but i haven't come across a wheel wax before - anyone have any suggestions? or do you use just the normal paint wax?

        general advice:

        - always use microfibre cloths on exterior/interior. i found a turtle wax brand sponge wrapped in microfibre at repco the other day! perfect for washing. the only time i've used non-microfibre is when i applied leather protectant, for which terry towels are fine.

        - wash your car in the shade

        - use a chamois to dry the whole car - not just the windows. gotta wring it dry often but it's worth it. and dry it as fast as possible so you don't get dry spots

        enjoy the GTI
