  • 225/45/17 fitment?

Anyone tried jamming in a 225/45/17? Hypothetically dia is pretty close to 205/55/16...

Thats the standard 17" fitment for the golf/octavia. I think it would be a bit large on the Polo. I have gone up to 235/45/17 on my octavia which fits just fine but its not much of a change.

I cant really remember, but isnt the standard 17" polo tyre 215/40 or something? If so your going to be about 30mm bigger on diameter, which I would say is too much even if it fits. (You will suffer in performance and braking at the very least).

My 215 x 40 fit, I think you'll find 225 and 45 a bit much... It will depend on the exact offset and how well that fits between the guards and struts. 10mm will make a lot of difference in that area, but will depend how low you are / go.

Unfortunately it won't happen unless you pump your guards and even then it will depend on the offset of your wheels.

I have 17x8" 35ET wheels with 215/40R17's and there is next to no clearance on the fronts between the tyre and the shock. And have had to pump the guards a lot and trim the plastic liner back also to stop the scubbing.

If your cool with pumping the guards I would suggest an extra 5mm offset clearance so a 17x8" 30ET.

Oh ok, I have heard that doing the fronts is pretty dangerous, meaning that they dent easily

I am going to ask the guys doing my roll cage the best way to really pump them out !!!

Anything with a larger diameter than 15mm over largest stock size originally fitted is illegal In Qld at least and most other states as well.
But by the sound of what you are doing that wont come into it anyway.

Both those tyres are way to big for a 9n in regards to profile height and rolling diameter
As said they are mk4 size tyres.
Need a 40 profile on 17s generally (for tyres around 205/40/17 anyway)

I'm with Dyl - I run 195/40/17's on a 7.5" - no traction issues, ride is considerably harder yeah but there's more room for more lows! Also it's legal stretch which means I tuck tire but my wheels are flush with the guards both front and rear at ET28.

I'm on 215/40/17, 17x8, et35. No scrubbing at all. Wouldn't want to put any extra tread under there though.

When I get my car back I was going to take it to a panel beater to see how much hassle it will be to pump the guards out 10 -15 mm to fit 225/35/17's. There aren't alot of tyres in that size though. Yoko S drive are available.
