Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Forge Diverter shims/springs effect on power delivery

My diverter was making that sound... I kicked it's nasty ass to the curb. Dropped on a Forge 008(?) replacement and it has ironed out power delivery marvellously. It does come with two alternate heavier springs and shims, but with no guidance as to how adjusting the pressure of the valve will effect engine performance.

Has anyone got definite guidance on making these adjustments or even dyno graphs?

    Pete

Yellow spring is the 17-21lb boost spring, so that's the way to go if you are tuned.

From what I've read, from emailing forge, etc...
3 springs with 3 different boost levels. the middle spring is for a chipped car
they say the springs are never required, but a boost guage is required to really tell.

I run mine with the softest spring backwards, so boost can not open the DV, only the VAC. I suggest looking into bypassing the N249 (i'm sure there is a guide / info on it somewhere).

I really do recomend running it backwards if you want a quiet dump and to hold boost without fear of it being pushed open.

Yellow spring on my 008. It's noticeably slower response than the R1, but I feel more confident in it holding more boost when the time comes.
