Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • PSS9 vs KW V1

    Guys,

Does anyone have any experience with the Bilstein PSS9 coilover setup and if you do, any comparisons with the KW V1s?

From what I understand, the PSS9s are damping adjustable as well as height adjustable compared to the V1s which are only height adjustable.

Looking for something a bit more track orientated as the V1s are pretty soft on the limit.

I have PSS9s on my Polo which is used almost exclusively as a track car these days.

They are height adjustable with the appropriate tools (as are most coilovers), and they are damping adjustable with a simple dial on the bottom of each unit. The adjustment ranges from 'very firm' to 'springs made of concrete'.

I leave them set to the firmest setting pretty much all the time - although changing the damping rate is very easy (takes no more than 30 seconds per corner) I have gotten so used to the hard setting that I just leave the car that way even for non-track driving. I don't know enough about suspension setup to fiddle with the damping rates to suit a particular track but a smarter person than I might find benefit in setting the suspension to suit the circuit.

I can't make any comparisons with the KW V1s though - I went straight from the stock suspension to the PSS9s when I bought the car.

If my struts were still stock, I'd be buying them

Edit: bugger it - I'm going for them

I noticed that the ad says pss9 golf polo in the title. Would these fit into a MK5 Golf by any chance?

FYI the seller told me they don't come with the adjusting spanners
