Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Who's chasing a gearbox from the UK? ;)

    Hey guys,

As some may know I import a fair few parts and wheels from the UK for my Polo, was looking as maybe getting a spare gearbox over just in case, and apparently another Australian has been enquiring

So the real point of this thread is - if you want a hand with courier advice/tips for the best deals and service then give me a shout, I think roughly I can ship a gearbox over within 4 days for about $250-300. Sea freight is about $200 flat - you can get an entire engine for that price too.

Alternatively, if it's no one off VWW - I might get hold of it to have a spare low mileage gearbox in the country for when one inevitably goes. But I'm not going to take it off one of you guys if you're in need

Any other parts anyone's interested in (realistically - no cup edition bumpers!) I can help you out too

I was thinking about 6 speed too - but a lot of work to do the conversion - might as well just go AWD

The price on the clutch and flywheel is about 3 times that of the lightweight flywheel/VR6 clutch that a few of us have done

A close friend of mine is looking for a gearbox at the moment for a MK4 Golf GTI. His gearbox is dying.
I have been making enquiries on his behalf so your'e probably refering to me. PM me if you can help.
                    Cheers, Greg.

From the research I've done today - apparently any 02J box will bolt up perfectly, but the code will guarantee the ratios stay the same. From the ratio charts I've looked at all the 1.8T 02J boxes have the same ratios. This is only what I've read, but hopefully the forum gods - Jimmy and Gav can shed some light?

One for Jimmy, pretty sure he has looked at fitted a MK4 box in a Polo a while ago. There were some differences but I don't remember what.

An O2M is definitely on the cards for me in the next 12 months if I keep the car.

                              Why's that?

I'd love to put a decent gear set in, with ATB, straight cuts, an extra gear, and light flywheel.
