  • Power steering fluid for Polo?

    Hi guys,

I had sometime today, so was going over fluid levels in the car... where is power steering fluid tank / reservoir?

When I had a play with brand new Polo 2007 model GTI a few weeks ago, it had lighter steering, so was wondering if mine was running low...

    Any ideas??

    (or is it fully electric)
    06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

Do you have OEM tyres on the car? If you've changed them ... may be what's affecting your steering.

Should you not mix powersteering fluid of different brands?

Is it becaue we have hydro-electric (or fully electric?) steering that makes it hard to find? I was wondering the same thing the other day...

The power steering is electric assist. The reservoir under the battery is the screen washers.Check your service book-see any mention of topping up power steering?
If your steering got lighter after topping up the resevoir under the battery I'd be worried. And what did you put in it?????

As long as it was Rain-X, all should be fine

The service book also does not give directions on how to change the oil, does that mean you never have to change the oil?

Not having a go, just pointing out that the service book is designed for you to go back to VW for everything, as opposed to doing it yourself

                      I'm sure that's the intention

However, check the position of the tank: after you have managed to get the top off, you will need to be creative about the method you use to add fluid.

Personally, I'd rather change the rear brake pads

well, pre-delivery should check those kind of thing for u, unfortunate my didn't so its was alway low... they don't go low unless there are leaks... but mine didn't leak...
so get ur glasses out, under battery tray is a green looking cap, half covered by the tray... so remove batt & tray, then undo anti clockwise.... mine was on low mark... don't know bout u guys....

If the level becomes low It will start to make a noise(eletric pump is inside the reservoir). Tyre pressures are the main thing that will cause lighter or heavy steering. Cheers
Thankz... lol i felt much better
