Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Picked up a second valve cover from Ant to paint up.
Sandblasted it, primed and a few coats of red wrinkle-coat.
Managed to get it fitted this afternoon --

            Hey Jimmy,
I just used the VHT series of engine enamels, primer and then wrinkle-coat. $15 + $18 all up.
I want to try Krylon products as it looks like you can get a tighter wrinkle finish..
It looked really good when it was all glossy red before it wrinkled up. Still deciding which finish I like better.
..still have to zip-tie that intake on too haha

            Cheers,
            Sam

I fitted my Wiechers front strut brace today, really straight forward and looks great.
The car feels noticeably different, traction seems improved.

I've decided to prioritize tuning the suspension and getting some good rubber in those arches as I can't fully give it the boot in 1st without losing traction as it is.

On another note, I removed the spare wheel. After tapping around the wheel well, I thought I'd chuck a few squares of dynamat in to stop the reverberating. I also blocked off the vents. I didn't think it would make much of a difference as there wasn't a heap of dynamat, but oh my goodness! It's quiet as a mouse now! It's probably the happiest I've been with the car, it's quieter and feels faster as a result

              Do it!

After trying to source the GTC01 in the right pcd and offset, I found that they have to special order them. There's an 8 week lead time, extra $100 and $500 shipping. Still thinking about them, but I don't know if I want to lay it down on wheels I'm not 100% sure on.
In the meantime I found the PF01's that I like --

Just trying to find a retailer.
Geez it's so hard to find good wheels!

Also got a nice order coming from ECS and hoping Jimmy can source me a SEAT cooler... it's getter warmer!

Bummer dude, those wheels are hot! If I had my time over I think these would look sick against the our red beasties

PF01's look good, slightly meatier looking than the ultralegarra's.

What about some diamond racing wheels?

I've never really been a fan of black wheels on red cars, they look great on white ones tho!
I think I've decided on the PF01's. Just waiting to hear back from a few places re final pricing.
I like the RPF1's but I don't want to be building a carbon copy of Ants car!
I think the PF01's are the next best option, weight v looks

I'm on the lookout for some good 215/40/17 tyres now. Any recommendations?
So far the Fed's that Ant's running seem like a good option, would love to hear some opinions..

Always been a fan of the Bridgestone RE001, now rebadged the RE002. I limped-out and went for the P-Zero Nero.... Bad plan.

Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT come in that size and get some pretty good reviews.

Depends if you are willing to search locally or overseas (tirerack)
