No logs, repaired write-off not disclosed by seller, it smells bad. I wouldn't touch it.

Personally I'd forget about the car - not so much because of the write-off itself but because the seller didn't disclose the fact to you.
There's no way anyone would not know their car had been written off, so to deliberately not disclose that information would make me wonder what else may be hidden about the car's history.
9N3 GTIs aren't rare cars, and I suspect quite a few will be making it to the market in the future as leases and finance plans come to an end with the vehicles reaching 5-6 years old. I'd suggest hanging out to find something else in your budget that doesn't have a dodgy seller cloud hanging over the top.
