Generally most apparent when cold starting. Engine sounds a bit asthmatic (wheezy) and there may be some metallic jingling (no, I'm not kidding).
When the engine warms up, these sounds may disappear. The symptoms gradually get worse (I don't know what happens if the bolts actually fall out - maybe one or more of you do ).
Sounds like your choke is working fine! try using injector cleaner/valve cleaner
Check for vacuum/air leaks at the boost control valve. It is possible that the bolts have worked loose and is letting air escape past the gasket. The leak may stop once the engine is warm as the heat expansion of the gasket and/or valve itself have sealed the leak. (You can check for this by using the old "soapy-water-applied -to-the-base-of-the-valve trick; but more noticeably, you'll hear a sound that reminds of an exhaust leak.
Checked my turbo bolts yesterday. They were replaced 3months/6000k ago.The one nearest the block has come loose. Not happy....
seems to be a much bigger problem than first thought.Log on to the Technical section under "1.8 engine" and type in "turbo bolts".
Pages and pages of them undoing, from low km standard cars to modified ones-and no one with a fix for them....
I updated the thread i started (when i didn't know it was the turbo bolts) vw had a look, tightened them up... they came loose 3 weeks later. Going in on monday to have another look. They said they will replace them this time... yippee. Anyway, i get to drive the golf tdi around all day again, its not all bad.
