hey smead thanks very much for that!!!!

i should be back from japan by then, so i think i might have to pencil GAD in - it will be good to catch up with peeps and to take a nice drive up north - it might fit in with visiting family up in sydney, quite nicely. my car won't be the show stopper that many other polos are (troy's, van's, ryan (bflat), and other solid pogs), but it least there'll be one polo with SUV wheel arch gap there - my coilies cannot go any higher on the front, haha

if and when that happens, it'll be watanabes, and they're expensive so i've got standard maintenance/refresh stuff to do before then, haha. but yeah... small black powdercoated wheels and fat tyres, i think it would suit the pog.

I'm running DBA slotted standard sized rotors and remsa pads, which are more street oriented pads, they're able to pull consistent .8g braking at queensland raceway down the back straight. That's 180km/h to 60km/h in ~200m, lap after lap. In saying that, I should have bought more track oriented pads but they are holding up exceptionally well.

Eddy (name and username) is also a great example of stock hardware with appropropriate pads and fluid. His car lives on the track and is amongst, if not the fastest circuit polo getting around. Not that I'd sneeze at a set of brembo's or porsche gear making its way on the front of any VW.

Nice, what did that kit set you back?

I thought Eddy had gone up in size...

I think rotors were $160 odd and pads around the $100. Really can't be sure so don't quote me. The pads were from GSL and I got the rotors at trade price through my brother who's a mechanic. Jimmy fitted it.

            Yeah Eddy recently upsized.

              Hoyhoy.

Yeah, me did upsize but only in the rotor department the Mk-1 TT have the same size caliper pistons as the Pog.
The standard brake set up with a bit of tuning (extra cooling, slotting, pads & fluid) is more than adequate for any spirited driving & even reasonably quick track runs.
Its just when you're really humping it that heat becomes a problem.

And to put that in perspective, that's quicker than the ford focus RS. Respect to little blue

I just have to add to that, Warren Luff was driving the Focus RS @ Waky who grew up on that track.

Honestly, contact Greg at GSL Rally Sports. It's worth buying from him for the service and real world advice that he will supply along with the parts at a good rate.

I'm as cheap (maybe more so) as the next guy but dealing with experts like him save you money in the longer term.

                          Hi Eddy,
I'm a novice at this, I'm looking for an upgrade for street driving and this sounds like the way to go for my needs ? what parts would you recommend ? and is the standard brake booster OK or does it need and upgrade?

                          regards

Watto, there's nothing wrong with the servo mate. You can stick to standard 288mm and some better pads. Replace the fluid for some with higher temp handling.

This is plenty good enough for track work.

If you have more money then replace the calipers and brackets with S3/TT/4motion ones and get 312mm discs and pads.

I have this on my Polo and the brakes are pretty good.

Upgrading for street purpose is not necessary @ all, the standard set up works real well.
Good pads & fluid can make a big difference..
I'm still running the standard master cylinder with the upgraded rotors front & rear because the wheel brake cylinders are of the original size.
