  • My New Rims

I picked up some MK1 Audi TT rims not long ago. Devoted this weekend to fixing them up and i'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

    Step 1: Sand them back

Step 2: Clean them up with some Metho and spray them with two coats of primer

    [IMG][/IMG]

Step 3: Two coats of gloss black

    [IMG][/IMG]

Step 4: two coats of clear acrylic to make it shine

They currently have continental 225/45/17 on them so i need to get some 205/40/17 (if anyone is letting some go cheap let me know). And hopefully get them on the car in the next few weeks

    Cheers

looks bloody great. What did u do about scratch/scuff marks before the primer? Light sanding?

Thanks. Yep, Sanded spots with light scuffs with some 180grit paper and for the places where they ran a bit deeper had to use 100grit to get it back to flat

Nice, I don't like straight black, but they came up well.

When I refurbed my TT's I used a metal bond on the rims to fill scrapes before sanding back. They had some decent gouges.

I'm going to be doing this to my Twists very soon. They need a good going over.

yeah im thinking about it too - my wife did a nice parking number on one of my rims early this year. up to that point they had gone 6 years scratch free.

shortshifter and noone - did u use a specific paint type eg heat proof etc?

I had mine done by a local smash repairer, I did the prep.

If you want an interesting colour, it's a good option.

Hey mate, i used VHT High Termperature Engine Enamel picked it up from repco for $13.50 a can (with NRMA discount). Needed two cans as i did several coats on each wheel. Used a 3M acryllic finish over the top ($5 a can) to give them a wet look/extra shine. And used a basic metal Primer for the first coat
