Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Oil deposit found under diverter valve

I was installing my APR R1 DV today, and I noticed some oil deposit around the hose leading to another black plastic valve housing just beneath the diverter valve:

Any idea what this valve does and whether the oil is an indication of a catastrophic failure of a crucial component?

I took a photo into the airintake hose inlet that the diverter valve connects to, and noticed some splash marks, could it be the oil from the leaking valve? pic:

    now i am all worried!!!!

It's just the crank case valve. It allows combustion pressure from the crank case to vent back into the intake. This carries oil vapour with it. This valve has a habit of leaking. Just give it a wipe down when you wash the car (as I do). It is nothing to worry about.

I have not seen any deposit in or around mine.
Maybe consider a catch can if your engine is passing a fair amount of crap.

I had a play with the valve, seems like strong boost should close the valve (sucking it closed), but this would mean its backwards. So does the crank case cause a vacuum that would close the valve?

        thanks.... I was so worried...

now I got R1 and PD160 installed, waiting for the arrival of my K&N drop-in panel filter...

the PD160 really made a huge difference, even with stock paper filter, the engine revs so much more willingly now, and it is definitely smoother, where as the R1 didn't change anything... (until I get an ECU tune of course)....

went out for a long drive after installing the R1, for some reason the turbo spooling "woooosh" sound now is less noticeable than with the stock DV, and it seems to come on at hight RPM as well.... anyone experience the same thing after installing the R1?

hi guys i got a polo gti the car had been in a slight accidnet an i am a panel beater and repaired it all up and stuff the engine wasnot touched in accident besides the oil filter housing cover.. i replaced the oil filter housing cover and tried starting it today and it started but it started to squirt a big load of oil from the top ofthe engine ? like i took of the rocket cover and noticed there was a puddle of oil an i was looking for a leak couldntreally find anything my mate told me he was watching it an it came somwere from the top of the motor it was a fair bit of oil he told me it squirted like hell ... what can it be any suggestions i kno its not a easy question since i dont kno where the leak is coming from can it be a hose ? is there a hose that sits towards the rocket cover gasket?

it looks like its leaking from where that picture is in this post

Yeah dont worry oil vapour has to turn to liquid, you should see when doing a cam belt and i have to take an intecooler pipe off, had so many places like U.... tune and the likes condemn a turbo, why its the lowest point and the vapour will turn to liquid there. If they owned a V8 Cayenne they would have a heart attack if they took that cooler pipe off, ive filled half a cup with oil, totally normal mate, drive the sucker, you are worried now with a standard car , mate chill , tune it and enjoy, they are bullet proof take it from me THere is a few on here running very aggressive cars and have had zero issues, ive seen them for years now and next to zero issues. FTW!!

Hey guys just reviving an old thread instead of posting a new one. I too have got this deposit of sludge around the PCV Valve? (to the right of the Diverter Valve) - should I replace the PCV valve or is it totally normal?

Clean it up, check it in a week, should tell you if its broken or just a bit of build-up over time.

Just getting my dad to post a replacement over just in case - they're like $15 over in the UK so might as well get one just in case. Part number on mine is 034 129 101 A if anyone needs it.
